Why December 3, 2025 is Extremely Important in Hinduism – Mokshada Ekadashi, Gita Jayanti & Margashirsha Ekadashi Vrat 2025
Tomorrow – Wednesday, 3 December 2025 – is not just another Ekadashi. It is the rarest and most powerful convergence of three major spiritual events in the Hindu calendar:
- Mokshada Ekadashi – The Ekadashi that directly grants liberation (Moksha)
- Gita Jayanti – The auspicious appearance day of Srimad Bhagavad Gita
- Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi (also known as Geeta Ekadashi or Utpanna Ekadashi in some traditions)
When these three coincide on the same day, the spiritual merit is believed to be multiplied millions of times.
This once-in-many-years alignment makes 3rd December 2025 one of the holiest days for every Hindu devotee worldwide.
The Glory of Mokshada Ekadashi (As Per Scriptures)
The Padma Purana and Brahma Vaivarta Purana dedicate entire chapters to Mokshada Ekadashi. Lord Krishna tells Yudhishthira:
“O King, fasting on Mokshada Ekadashi destroys sins accumulated over many births and bestows the supreme destination – Vaikuntha. This Ekadashi is so dear to Me that it opens the gates of liberation even for the greatest sinners.”
Key Benefits (Phalshruti):
- Equivalent to performing 1,000 Ashwamedha Yajnas and 100 Rajasuya Yajnas
- All past and present sins are burnt to ashes
- Ancestors up to 14 generations attain liberation
- The soul gets freedom from the cycle of 84 lakh yonis
- Even partial observance (eating only fruits/milk) gives the fruit of Vajapeya Yajna
Gita Jayanti – The Day Lord Krishna Gifted the World’s Greatest Scripture
On this very tithi (Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi) more than 5,000 years ago on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna spoke the 700-verse Bhagavad Gita to His friend and devotee Arjuna.
That is why this Ekadashi is also celebrated as Gita Jayanti across the world.
