Namaste dear devotees living abroad! Tomorrow – Wednesday, 3 December 2025 – is the most auspicious Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi, celebrated as Mokshada Ekadashi and Gita Jayanti worldwide.

For Hindus in the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia and every other country, the fasting and all rituals must be performed on 3rd December only (no confusion of tithi).

Complete Step-by-Step Rituals & Puja Vidhi for NRIs & Abroad Hindus

1. Early Morning (4:30 AM – 6:00 AM local time)

  • Wake up during Brahma Muhurta
  • Take bath and wear fresh yellow, white or light-colored clothes
  • Light a ghee diya in front of Tulsi plant or Lord Vishnu photo
  • Take sankalp (in English or your language): “O Lord Damodara & Sri Krishna, today 3rd December 2025, I am observing Mokshada Ekadashi and Gita Jayanti vrat for liberation from sins and to receive the divine knowledge of Bhagavad Gita.”

2. Special Damodara-Gita Combined Puja (Morning or Madhyahna)

Items required (all available in Indian grocery stores or Amazon):

  • Large photo of Krishna-Arjuna on chariot OR Krishna with Gita
  • Bhagavad Gita book (keep on a small wooden chowki)
  • Fresh tulsi leaves (11 or 21), flowers, incense, ghee lamp, small bell
  • Panchamrit, fruits, rock sugar (mishri), dry fruits
  • Small silver or copper kalash with water & tulsi leaf

Puja Steps:

  1. Light two ghee lamps and five incense sticks
  2. Offer achaman (3 spoonfuls water) to Lord
  3. Invoke Lord Damodara & Gita: “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya – I welcome Lord Krishna who spoke the immortal Gita on this day.”
  4. Offer tilak, tulsi leaves (never offer tulsi without washing & without breaking stem), flowers
  5. Offer panchamrit and then bathe the Gita book with few drops of panchamrit water (symbolic)
  6. Perform aarti with ghee lamp while singing “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” or “Jai Krishna Hare”
  7. Offer naivedya – fruits, sabudana items, dry fruits

3. Most Powerful Mantras to Chant Throughout the Day

(Keep chanting any one or all – even while working or driving)

4. Gita Jayanti Special Practices

  • Read or listen to at least one chapter of Bhagavad Gita
  • Many families in USA do “Gita Home Path” – complete all 18 chapters together in 2-3 hours
  • Join online 24-hour Akhand Gita Chanting (ISKCON New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Toronto, London, Sydney are live-streaming)

5. Vrat (Fasting) Rules for Working Professionals

  • Nirjala (complete fast) is best, but if not possible: • Fruits, milk, tea, coffee, sabudana, potato, peanuts, makhana, dry fruits are allowed • NO grains, rice, lentils, onion, garlic, non-veg
  • Stay hydrated with lemon water, coconut water, buttermilk

6. Evening Rituals (Before Sunset)

  • Light ghee diya again and offer tulsi-dal to Lord
  • Do one more short Gita reading
  • Offer gratitude prayer: “Thank you Krishna for giving us the Gita on this day”

7. Next Morning Parana (4 December)

  • Break fast only after sunrise and within parana time given in the table
  • First offer tulsi water to Lord, then drink it
  • Eat sattvic food (first bite should be fruit or mishri)
