Westmead is a major medical precinct in western Sydney, 30 minutes from Sydney Airport and 40 minutes from the CBD. The temple sits directly on Station Street, 400 metres from Westmead Station — one of the most accessible temple locations in Sydney. On-site parking is limited (80 spaces) but fills quickly on Sundays and festival days; most devotees use the train.

By air: Sydney Kingsford Smith International (SYD) is 32 km (35 min drive via the M4 or Eastern Distributor). By train: Westmead Station on Sydney Trains T1 (Western Line) and T5 (Cumberland Line) is 400 metres from the temple — 30 minutes from Central Station, 25 minutes from Parramatta. By bus: Sydney Buses routes 706, 711 and 705 stop at Westmead Hospital, 3 minutes walk from the temple. By car: From the M4 take Exit 35 (Parramatta Road) to Westmead; turn onto Station Street. Westmead is extraordinarily well-connected by public transport — the T1 Western Line and T5 Cumberland Line both serve Westmead Station, placing the temple 30 minutes from Sydney Central and 25 minutes from Parramatta. The temple is a 5-minute walk from the station. Sydney Bus routes 706, 711 and 705 stop at Westmead Hospital, a 3-minute walk from the temple. By car, Westmead is 30 minutes from Sydney Airport via the M4 motorway, with on-site parking limited to 80 spaces (on-street parking in the hospital precinct is alternative, with standard parking metres).

Skanda Sashti (October/November) is the temple's busiest period — the kavadi procession day requires route-wide street closures on Station Street, and visitors not participating in the procession should plan to arrive by 9 AM and leave only after 3 PM. The temple publishes a detailed Skanda Sashti program via karpagavinayakar.com.au with route maps, timing, and live-stream links. The temple office is extremely helpful with first-time visitors: printed Tamil, English and Sinhala guides are available for the major rituals.

Where to Stay

Accommodation

Westmead itself has limited hotels but the Parramatta CBD (3 km) offers excellent options: Novotel Sydney Parramatta, Mercure Sydney Parramatta, Holiday Inn Parramatta, Pacific Hotel Parramatta. Rydges Parramatta and Meriton Serviced Apartments offer longer-stay options. For vegetarian meals, the temple canteen serves traditional Tamil tiffin (idli, dosai, uthappam) and lunch meals on weekends. Parramatta’s Harris Park ("Little India") is 5 minutes away with dozens of Indian and Sri Lankan vegetarian restaurants — Chatkazz, Saravanaa Bhavan, Karthikas and Jaffna Mantra are popular with temple devotees.

Parramatta (3 km from the temple) has excellent hotel options including Novotel Sydney Parramatta, Mercure Sydney Parramatta, Pacific Hotel Parramatta, Holiday Inn Parramatta and Meriton Serviced Apartments. The Rydges Parramatta is particularly popular with temple wedding families. Downtown Sydney hotels are 30-40 minutes away by train. Parramatta's Harris Park (5 min from temple) is Sydney's "Little India" with 40+ Tamil, South Indian and Sri Lankan restaurants — Chatkazz, Saravanaa Bhavan, Jaffna Mantra and Abalone are temple-devotee favourites. For authentic Jaffna Tamil cuisine (rare outside Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu), Karthikas Restaurant and Ceylon Inn in Harris Park are highly recommended.
