Sri Rama Navami celebrates the birth of Lord Rama — the seventh avatar of Vishnu, the Maryada Purushottam (the ideal man), the hero of the Ramayana — on the 9th day of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month. Born at the noon-hour (madhyahna) in Ayodhya to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya, Rama's life is the touchstone of dharma for every Hindu — son, brother, husband, king, warrior, devotee — each role lived perfectly under the most testing circumstances. Sri Rama Navami 2026 falls on Friday, 27 March. The birth-hour celebration is at madhyahna (around 12 noon) — the precise muhurat varies slightly by location. HinduTone's Sri Rama Navami hub covers the full festival cycle: home puja vidhi (Rama-Sita-Lakshmana-Hanuman murti installation, Rama Sahasranama, Vishnu Sahasranama, panchamrita abhishekam), the famous Sri Rama Kalyanam at Bhadrachalam in Telangana (the divine wedding of Rama and Sita re-enacted with traditional Vedic rituals), the Hanuman Chalisa and Bajrang Baan recitation, the recommended Ramayana parayanam over the 9 days of Chaitra leading up to Rama Navami, and the Akhand Path (continuous Ramayana recitation) tradition. We also cover Ayodhya — the rebuilt Sri Rama Janmabhoomi Mandir consecrated in January 2024 — and how the diaspora celebrates Rama Navami at major temples in the USA (Bridgewater, Atlanta, Houston), UK, Australia, Canada, UAE and beyond. Sri Rama Navami 2026 falls on Friday, 27 March. Rama's birth-hour (madhyahna) muhurat is approximately 11:15 AM–1:45 PM IST on that day.
The grand re-enactment of Rama and Sita's wedding performed at Sri Bhadrachalam temple on Sri Rama Navami day, drawing 500,000+ devotees. The temple deity, Sri Rama with Sita on his lap and Lakshmana behind, is uniquely worshipped here in the Vatsalya Bhava (parental love) tradition. Live-streamed every year.
Clean home, install Sri Rama Pattabhishekam picture/murti with Sita-Lakshmana-Hanuman; offer panchamrita abhishekam (milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar); chant Vishnu Sahasranama and Hanuman Chalisa; offer naivedyam (panakam, kosumalli, vadapappu, payasam — the Bhadrachalam prasad set); read or hear the Bala Kanda of Ramayana; conclude with arati.
The 9-day Vasant Navratri runs from Chaitra Shukla Pratipada to Navami. Devotees do a 9-day Ramayana Parayanam (one Kanda per day except the final two days which complete Yuddha Kanda and Uttara Kanda). On day 9 — Sri Rama Navami — the parayanam concludes with the Akhand Path culminating at madhyahna.
Maryada Purushottam means "the supreme man who lives within all righteous boundaries". Rama embodied dharma without exception — as son obeying Dasharatha's vow to Kaikeyi, as husband honouring Sita's agni-pariksha and exile, as king choosing duty over personal happiness. Unlike Krishna (the Leela-Purushottam who teaches through play and exception), Rama teaches through unflinching adherence to the rules of dharma.
