HinduTone is a Sanatana Dharma and Hindu cultural publication. This page explains how we compile our temple directory and articles, what we will and will not publish, and how to ask for a correction.

How the temple directory is compiled

Temple listings draw on public data sources, which are named at the foot of each temple page:

  • OpenStreetMap — temple names and locations (© OpenStreetMap contributors, Open Database License).
  • Wikidata — structured facts such as deity, administrative area, architectural style and inception (CC0).
  • Wikipedia — background facts, used under CC BY-SA 4.0 with attribution.
  • Official temple, shrine-board and government websites, and established reference works, for the guides we have reviewed.

Many directory listings were first drafted with the help of AI from these public data sources. Such pages say so near the top, and their facts have not yet been independently verified. Pages that have been checked against cited sources carry a “Last reviewed” date and list those sources.

What we do not publish

  • Invented darshan or aarti timings, ticket prices, phone numbers, distances or visitor statistics.
  • Testimonials, quotes or stories attributed to devotees unless the person is real and has agreed to be quoted.
  • Classifications such as Jyotirlinga, Shakti Peetha or Divya Desam unless they are well established; where traditional lists differ, we say so.
  • Photographs of one temple presented as another temple.

Faith, tradition and history

We describe beliefs respectfully and in their own terms, using phrases such as “according to tradition” or “devotees believe”. Where historical records, inscriptions or archaeological findings exist we cite them, and we keep them distinct from sacred tradition. Where sources disagree on a date or detail, we note the disagreement rather than choosing silently.

Time-sensitive information

Timings, registration rules, fees and route conditions change with seasons, festivals and administrative decisions. We mark such information as time-sensitive and ask readers to confirm current arrangements with the temple administration or official pilgrimage authority before travelling.

Corrections

If you find an error on any HinduTone page — including a wrong location, deity, date or photograph — please write to info@hindutone.com with the page link and, if possible, a source. We review every correction request and update the page, including its “Last reviewed” date, when a change is made.
