Hyderabad's Ganesh Nimajjanam (Visarjan) is one of the city's most vibrant annual festivals — lakhs of devotees, towering idols, kilometres-long shobha yatras, and grand immersions at Hussain Sagar that turn Necklace Road, NTR Marg and Tank Bund into a sea of devotion. What is Ganesh Nimajjanam?

Ganesh Nimajjanam is the immersion of Lord Ganesha idols after the 1.5–11 day festival. Devotees believe Ganesha carries away obstacles and returns the following year. Hyderabad celebrates it at extraordinary scale — decorated idols, dhol-tasha, fireworks and chants of "Ganpati Bappa Morya!"

Khairatabad Bada Ganesh — the star attraction

The towering Khairatabad Maha Ganapathi (often 60–70 feet) is the centrepiece. The massive idol is moved by crane and immersed near NTR Marg / Hussain Sagar (commonly Crane Point No. 4). The grand shobha yatra starts from the Khairatabad area (Rajdoot Junction, Telephone Bhavan, Telugu Talli Junction) and the lowering of the giant idol into the water is an emotional, spectacular sight.

Balapur Ganesh Shobha Yatra

One of the longest, most popular processions begins at Balapur in the south, passing Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma, Charminar, Afzal Gunj, Abids, Basheerbagh and Liberty before reaching NTR Marg / Hussain Sagar. The famous Balapur laddu auction often fetches record amounts.

Per court orders and environmental concerns: eco-friendly clay idols are preferred at designated lake points, while PoP idols go to GHMC artificial "baby ponds"; GHMC sets up dozens of immersion points citywide with digital locators.

Security & traffic

Authorities deploy 20,000+ police, thousands of CCTV cameras, drones and integrated command centres. Traffic restrictions run from early morning on immersion day to the next morning; heavy vehicles divert to the Outer Ring Road, with major diversions at MJ Market, Liberty, Khairatabad, Tank Bund and NTR Marg.
