Ganesh Nimarjanam (Visarjan) 2026 for NRIs in the UK — legal eco-friendly home immersion, temple arrangements and the sacred farewell mantras.
Om Gaṃ Gaṇapataye Namaḥ
In this green and pleasant land, far from the sacred rivers of Bharat, the loving presence of Vighnaharta fills every devoted home across London, Birmingham, Leicester, Manchester and Southall.
Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 began on Monday, 14 September. The main and most auspicious Visarjan day is Anant Chaturdashi — Friday, 25 September 2026. Families may also perform the farewell after 1½, 3, 5 or 7 days according to their tradition.

The Spiritual Essence of Visarjan
When the clay form dissolves into water, it reminds us of the eternal truth of Sanatana Dharma: all forms are temporary, yet the Divine is everlasting. As we immerse the murti, we lovingly offer our ego, our worries and our difficulties along with it, praying with a full heart: “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!” — O Lord Ganesha, come again next year soon.
Important Guidance for the UK
UK environmental law (the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Water Resources Act 1991) protects rivers, lakes and waterways. Immersing idols in natural water bodies without Environment Agency or council permission is not allowed and can attract fines. The purest and most widely followed practice is an eco-friendly home Visarjan or a temple-organised arrangement.
How to Perform Ganesh Nimarjanam in the UK
Sacred Home Bucket / Tub Visarjan (most recommended)
This method is completely legal, private, apartment-friendly and deeply spiritual.
- Use only a pure natural clay (shadu mitti) or seed-embedded eco-friendly idol.
- On the day of Visarjan, perform the final Uttar Puja with your family.
- Offer fresh flowers, durva grass, modaks, fruits and light the lamp.
- Sing the aarti and chant the mantras below with the whole family.
- Gently place the idol in a clean bucket or tub of pure water while chanting.
- Let the clay dissolve completely, then pour the sacred water on tulsi or garden plants so that Bappa returns to Mother Earth through living greenery.
Temple & Community Arrangements
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden (London) and major temples in London, Birmingham, Leicester, Manchester and Southall provide organised facilities. Some communities hold permitted immersions at approved sites — always check with the organisers in advance, as these require official approval.
Symbolic Visarjan
If you keep a permanent brass, stone or metal murti, perform a symbolic Visarjan by sprinkling a few drops of pure water on it while chanting the mantras with devotion, then store it safely for next year.
Powerful Mantras to Chant During Visarjan
Chant these with deep feeling while performing the immersion:
1. Beeja Mantra (repeat 11, 21 or 108 times): ॐ गं गणपतये नमः — Om Gaṃ Gaṇapataye Namaḥ
2. Sankata Nashana Stotram:
3. Maha Ganapati Mantra:
4. Heartfelt Farewell Chant:
5. Ganesh Gayatri Mantra:
6. A simple prayer of surrender: “He Gajanana, He Vighnaharta — accept our humble worship. Take away all obstacles from our path. Bless our family with health, peace, wisdom and prosperity. Return to us again next year with greater grace.”
A Loving Message
Lord Ganesha does not measure the size of the idol or the grandeur of the procession — He looks only at the purity of the heart. Whether you immerse a small clay murti in a bucket at home or join a temple ceremony, the devotion remains the same. Involve your children: let them offer flowers and chant “Ganpati Bappa Morya” so the sacred samskara continues in the next generation.
O Lambodara, O Vakratunda — though we live far across the oceans, Your divine presence fills our homes. As we dissolve Your sacred form, dissolve our ego, our fears and our attachments. Remain forever in our hearts as the remover of all obstacles. Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah. Ganapati Bappa Morya! Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya!
