Rama is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and the Maryada Purushottam — the ideal man who lives within all righteous boundaries (dharma) without exception. Born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya at the noon-hour of Chaitra Shukla Navami in Ayodhya, he lived every relationship perfectly under the most testing circumstances: as obedient son to his father's promise, as exiled prince accepting 14 years in the forest, as protective husband through Sita's abduction and rescue, as victorious king who upheld dharma even at personal cost. His life is the canonical text of dharmic conduct for Hindus across millennia. HinduTone's Rama hub covers his full story and practice: Valmiki Ramayana's seven kandas — Bala (childhood), Ayodhya (exile), Aranya (forest), Kishkindha (Hanuman meeting), Sundara (Hanuman-Lanka), Yuddha (war with Ravana), Uttara (return and rule); Goswami Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas as the bhakti-soaked vernacular retelling; the Vishishtadvaita and other commentaries; and the Adhyatma Ramayana's philosophical dimension. Mantras include the Sri Rama Raksha Stotram, the Ram Taraka Mantra (Sri Ram Jaya Ram Jaya Jaya Ram), the Rama Ashtottara (108 names), and the Rama Sahasranama. We also cover the Janmabhoomi at Ayodhya — the newly-consecrated grand mandir (January 2024) at Lord Rama's birthplace — along with the famous Bhadrachalam Sri Rama Kalyanam on Rama Navami day. Festival calendar: Sri Rama Navami (March/April), Vivaha Panchami (Margashirsha Shukla Panchami — Rama-Sita wedding day), Hanuman Jayanti, Dussehra (Rama's victory over Ravana on Vijayadashami).

A 38-verse protective hymn attributed to Sage Budha Kaushika, composed in stuti form. It invokes Rama, Lakshmana and Hanuman to shield the devotee from harm. Traditionally chanted daily — especially on Tuesdays, Saturdays and the 9th tithi (Navami) — for protection from accidents, enemies and negative influences.
Sri Rama Navami 2026 falls on Friday, 27 March — Chaitra Shukla Navami. Rama's birth-hour (madhyahna) muhurat is approximately 11:15 AM–1:45 PM IST. The famous Sri Rama Kalyanam at Bhadrachalam temple is held on this day and live-streamed.
Maryada Purushottam means "the supreme man who lives within all righteous boundaries". Rama embodied dharma without exception — as son obeying Dasharatha's vow to Kaikeyi, as husband honouring Sita's agni-pariksha and exile, as king choosing duty over personal happiness. Unlike Krishna (the Leela-Purushottam who teaches through exception), Rama teaches through unflinching adherence.
The grand temple at Lord Rama's birthplace in Ayodhya, consecrated in January 2024 after a 500-year legal and historical struggle. The Pran Pratishtha was performed on 22 January 2024. The Garbha Griha houses the Bal Rupa (child form) of Rama, with the eyes ceremonially opened that morning.
Begin with Valmiki Ramayana (the original Sanskrit, available in English translation by Robert P Goldman and Sheldon Pollock). For devotional bhakti, read Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas (in Awadhi or English translation). For children, Amar Chitra Katha or Devdutt Pattanaik versions work. The Sundarakanda alone is considered immensely powerful and is recited weekly by many devotees.
