Robbinsville Township sits in Mercer County, central New Jersey, roughly an hour from both New York City and Philadelphia and easily accessible from all three major regional airports. The mandir has large free parking lots and on-site shuttle service from the gate.
By air: Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is the closest at 55 km; Philadelphia International (PHL) is 65 km; JFK is 120 km. All offer direct flights from Indian hubs (Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad). By train: Hamilton Station on the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor Line is 8 km away, with taxi / rideshare completing the journey. Amtrak Trenton (14 km) is also convenient. By car: The temple sits directly off Exit 7A of the New Jersey Turnpike; signage on Highway 130 leads to the campus. From New York Penn Station or Philadelphia 30th Street, allow 75–90 minutes by train + taxi.
Devotee tip: Akshardham's peak crowding is on Saturdays (2 PM – 6 PM) and during major festivals. For a more contemplative darshan, visit on Tuesday or Wednesday between 10 AM and noon — the morning aarti crowd has dispersed and the afternoon rush has not begun. First-time visitors are encouraged to budget 3–4 hours: 45 minutes for the guided architectural tour, 30 minutes for abhishek, 45 minutes for the Nilkanth Yatra experience, and the rest for personal darshan and the prasadam canteen. The Mandir is fully wheelchair-accessible with complimentary loan wheelchairs at the visitor centre.
Transport note: Uber from New York Penn Station costs $75-$110 depending on time; the NJ Transit alternative (Northeast Corridor Line to Hamilton Station, then $15 Uber) is more economical at $35 total. Complimentary shuttle buses run between the Hamilton NJ Transit station and the Mandir on Sundays and major festivals. Parking at the Mandir is free but fills early — arrive by 10:30 AM on weekends for a front lot space. Valet parking ($10) is available during festivals. Electric vehicle charging stations are available on-site.
BAPS offers a limited guesthouse on campus for out-of-town devotees participating in specific programmes — bookings are by application through akshardham.org. For general visitors, Robbinsville, Hamilton and Princeton offer a wide range of hotels from budget (Days Inn, Super 8, Holiday Inn Express Hamilton) to mid-range (Hyatt Place Princeton, Courtyard Marriott Ewing) and premium (Nassau Inn Princeton, The Graduate Princeton). The township also has a thriving Gujarati and South Indian restaurant strip, so Satvik and Jain meals are readily available.
Princeton's Nassau Inn and Graduate Princeton (25 min drive) offer boutique hotel experience with easy access to Princeton University dining and the temple. For families combining a Mandir visit with New York tourism, consider staying in Jersey City (Hyatt House Jersey City, 45 min away) — you'll enjoy Manhattan skyline views in the evenings and easy PATH train access to NYC. The Mandir's on-site guesthouse (by application only) offers 24 simple rooms with attached bath and included satvik breakfast; priority is given to out-of-state satsangis attending multi-day programmes. For a uniquely immersive experience, the Mandir's volunteer programme (apply online) provides room and board in exchange for seva and is especially popular with college students during summer breaks.
