Job Summary
Sri Ganesha Temple of Kansas is seeking a dedicated and qualified Hindu Temple Priest to join our spiritual community. The priest will be responsible for conducting daily worship services, maintaining the sanctity of the temple, providing spiritual guidance to devotees, and facilitating community events. The ideal candidate will have formal training in Hindu priesthood, deep knowledge of Hindu scriptures and rituals, and the ability to engage with a diverse community in a culturally sensitive manner.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Worship Services: Perform daily rituals including puja, abhishekam, aarati, and other traditional Hindu ceremonies with precision and devotion.
- Spiritual Guidance: Offer spiritual counseling and guidance to devotees, addressing their religious and personal queries in alignment with Hindu teachings.
- Maintain Temple Sanctity: Ensure the cleanliness, sanctity, and proper upkeep of the temple’s deities, altars, and premises.
- Facilitate Community Events: Organize and lead temple events such as festivals, religious discourses, and cultural programs to foster community engagement.
- Perform Ceremonies: Conduct special ceremonies including weddings, naming ceremonies, housewarming rituals, and other significant life events for devotees.
- Scriptural Recitation: Chant Vedic mantras, slokas, and other sacred texts during rituals and events with proper pronunciation and adherence to tradition.
Requirements
- Formal Training: Formal education or certification as a Hindu priest from a recognized institution or guru, with expertise in Hindu rituals and traditions.
- Knowledge of Scriptures: In-depth understanding of Hindu scriptures such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, and other relevant texts.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in Hindi and English (both verbal and written); proficiency in Sanskrit for chanting mantras and performing rituals.
- Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available).
- Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to interact respectfully with a diverse community and adapt to the needs of devotees from various backgrounds.
Preferred Skills
- Musical Abilities: Experience in performing bhajans, kirtans, or other devotional music to enhance the spiritual atmosphere.
- Ceremonial Expertise: Prior experience conducting Hindu ceremonies such as weddings, naming ceremonies, or other samskaras.
- Basic Computer Skills: Familiarity with email, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms to assist with temple communications and event promotions.
