The Navaratri Brahmotsavam, 12-20 October

2026 has an Adhika masam, so Lord Venkateswara has two Brahmotsavams this year. The annual Salakatla Brahmotsavam ran from 15 to 23 September. The second, the Navaratri Brahmotsavam, is held in the Dasara month, from 12 to 20 October. TTD says it has no flag hoisting (Dhwajarohanam) or flag lowering, and the Swarna Ratham replaces the wooden chariot. Vahana sevas run 8-10 am and 7-9 pm, with Garuda Vahanam from 6:30 to 11:30 pm on 16 October. Source: TTD News

For the full day-by-day vahana table and the meaning of each vahanam, see our Navaratri Brahmotsavam 2026 vahana schedule. For Garuda night tips, see the Garuda Seva guide.

Other October observances explained

  • Sri Vedanta Desika Sattumora (20 October): Vedanta Desika, the great 13th-14th century Sri Vaishnava acharya and poet, is honoured with a sattumora, the closing recitation of his works, on Vijayadasami at Tirumala. In Tirupati, the Govindaraja temple holds a ten-day Desikar Utsavam from 11 to 20 October.
  • Boodattalwar Varsha Thiru Nakshatram (21 October): the annual birth-star day of Bhoothathalvar, one of the first three Alwars, whose hymns are part of the Divya Prabandham sung before the Lord.
  • Paruveta Utsavam (20 October, Govindaraja temple): a ceremonial 'hunt' procession held on Vijayadasami, recalling the Lord as protector.
  • Pournami Garuda Seva (26 October): a monthly full-moon Garuda Vahana Seva, listed by TTD both at Tirumala and at the Govindaraja temple.
  • Andal processions (Fridays): Sri Andal, the saint-poetess of the Tiruppavai, is taken in procession at the Govindaraja temple on the Fridays of 16, 23 and 30 October.
