Badrinath Temple is a Hindu temple to Vishnu, worshipped as Badrinarayan, in the town of Badrinath in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. It stands on the right bank of the Alaknanda river among snow-capped ranges, and is one of the 108 Divya Desams sacred to Vaishnavas, according to the Shri Badarinath Kedarnath Temple Committee, which administers it.

Religious Significance of Badrinath Temple
Badrinath belongs to two pilgrimage circuits. It is one of the four shrines of the Uttarakhand Char Dham (with Yamunotri, Gangotri and Kedarnath), and also one of the four abodes of the all-India Char Dham, with Dwarka, Puri and Rameswaram, as Hinduism Today explains. The town is also part of the Panch Badri group of temples, with Yog Dhyan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri and Vriddha Badri.
According to tradition recounted by the temple committee, Vishnu took the form of Nar-Narayan here and performed austerities for the welfare of the world. The deity worshipped is a self-manifested image of Shaligram stone.

The temple committee notes that Badrinath is described in religious texts including the Skanda Purana, the Kedarkhand and the Bhagavata Purana.
Architecture and sacred features
Around the Tapt Kund, a hot spring near the shrine, lie the Panch Shila — the Garud, Nar, Narsingh, Varah and Markandeya stones. The conical Narad Shila stands between the Tapt Kund and the Narad Kund, according to the temple committee.
