Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 begins on Monday, 14 September. The main immersion (Anant Chaturdashi) falls on Friday, 25 September 2026.

Setting up a mandap and taking the idol out for nimajjanam / visarjan are two different processes. Many organisers wrongly assume that the BMC and police clearances obtained for the pandal automatically cover the procession and immersion. They do not.

The 6-Feet Rule (Critical for 2026)

Where You Can Immerse in Mumbai 2026

Option 1 – BMC Artificial Ponds (383 sites) — Mandatory for all idols ≤ 6 ft. Distributed across all 25 wards. Locations available via QR codes and Google Maps through BMC. Confirm allotment through your ward office.

Option 2 – Designated Natural Sites — For taller idols only: Girgaon Chowpatty, Dadar Chowpatty, Juhu Chowpatty, Versova, Mahim, Bandra Bandstand, Gateway of India area, Worli Sea Face, and selected lakes/jetties (67 natural sites total). BMC deploys cranes, lifeguards, nirmalya collection and floating buoys at major points.

Option 3 – Home Immersion — Small clay idol in a tub. Water poured into garden or plant pots. Fully valid, zero permissions required, safest option for households.

Large Idols and Crane Arrangements

BMC deploys dozens of cranes at major immersion points.

• Apply through your BMC ward office with exact height, weight and material.
• Carry the allotment paper.
• Confirm route height clearance under flyovers and cable spans.
• Assign your own volunteers; crane operators only lift.

Procession Route & Traffic Clearance

Apply well in advance at the jurisdictional police station. You will need:

Mumbai Police issue detailed traffic advisories covering closures and diversions around Girgaon, Lalbaug, Parel, Dadar, Juhu and major corridors a few days before Anant Chaturdashi. Check the official advisory on the evening of 24 September and again on the morning of 25 September.
