📜 Utpanna Ekadashi Katha: The Divine Story from Padma Purana

The Demon Mura's Reign of Terror

In ancient times, a fearsome demon named Mura conquered the three worlds. Born from Lord Brahma's perspiration, he possessed immense power that terrified even the Devas. He drove Indra from heaven and established his dominion over all realms.

Lord Vishnu's Battle

The desperate Devas approached Lord Vishnu at Ksheer Sagar. The compassionate Lord marched to Chandravati (near Mathura) and engaged Mura in combat. The battle raged for ten thousand years - mountains shattered, oceans boiled, and the earth trembled.

The Divine Sleep in Simhavati Cave

Exhausted, Lord Vishnu retreated to the Simhavati Cave in Badarikashrama (Himalayas) for rest. The demon Mura followed with murderous intent, sword raised to strike the sleeping Lord.

Birth of Goddess Ekadashi

At that precise moment, from Lord Vishnu's divine effulgence (tejas), a magnificent goddess emerged:

Complexion: Radiant as molten gold
Eyes: Like blooming lotuses
Form: Armed with celestial weapons
Voice: Sweet as flowing Ganges

Victory Over Mura

With divine grace, Goddess Ekadashi challenged Mura. The demon attacked furiously, but She:

  1. Paralyzed his army with Her divine humkara (sound)
  2. Incinerated his weapons with Her blazing gaze
  3. Beheaded him with Her celestial mace

Mura and his army were reduced to ashes, and peace returned to the cosmos.

Lord Vishnu's Blessings

Awakening, Lord Vishnu beheld the miracle and blessed Her:

"O Divine Mother, You are My own Shakti. From today, the eleventh day (Ekadashi) of every fortnight shall be sacred to You. Those who fast on this day with devotion shall attain My supreme abode, Vaikuntha."

🙏 Inspirational Stories: Devotees Blessed by Utpanna Ekadashi

Story 1: The Poor Merchant of Ujjain

Someshwar, a destitute merchant, was drowning in debt with seven children to feed. One night, a wandering sadhu told him about Utpanna Ekadashi's power.

Despite poverty, Someshwar observed the vrat with complete faith - offering whatever little fruits he could gather. That very night, Goddess Ekadashi appeared in his dream, pointing to a spot beneath his old tulsi plant.

Next morning, he dug and found an ancient treasure! Not only did he clear his debts, but he became Ujjain's wealthiest merchant. He built a magnificent Vishnu temple and fed thousands of devotees every Ekadashi till his last breath.

Lesson: Faith moves mountains. Even the poorest offering made with devotion attracts divine grace.

Story 2: The Childless Widow of Vrindavan

Radhika Devi, widowed at 25 and childless, was abandoned by relatives. Living in a small hut near Yamuna, she began observing Utpanna Ekadashi with tears and devotion.

For 12 consecutive years, she fasted rigorously, offered tulsi to Thakurji, and sang bhajans alone. On the 12th year's Ekadashi night, a divine child appeared at her doorstep - Lord Krishna Himself in baby form!

The child stayed with her as her eternal son. Neighbors witnessed her hut always smelling of divine fragrance. When she left her body, her soul went directly to Goloka Vrindavana.

Lesson: Ekadashi vrat fills all voids - material and spiritual. Mother Ekadashi never abandons Her devotees.

Story 3: King Ambarisha Conquers Death

King Ambarisha, devotee of Vishnu, was once cursed by sage Durvasa to die. When Yamaraj came with his noose, Ambarisha remained calm - he had been observing Ekadashi vrats for years.

Suddenly, Lord Vishnu's Sudarshan Chakra appeared, protecting the king! Yamaraj retreated, declaring:

"Ekadashi bhaktas are beyond my jurisdiction. They are protected by Hari Himself!"

The curse was nullified, and Ambarisha ruled for centuries in perfect health.

Lesson: Ekadashi vrat grants protection even from death. Lord's devotees fear nothing.
