Atindriya (अतीन्द्रिय, IAST: Atīndriya) is an Sanskrit-origin Hindu boy-name meaning “Beyond the senses; transcending all sense-perception”. From ati (beyond, surpassing) and indriya (faculty of sense), Atīndriya proclaims that Vishnu's true form lies entirely beyond the reach of the ten organs of perception.

Meaning, etymology & significance

The prefix ati conveys surpassing or going beyond, while indriya refers to the cognitive and motor senses understood in Sāṃkhya and Vedāntic thought. Together they declare that no eye can truly see Vishnu, no ear fully hear Him — He is perceived only through purified devotion and the grace of śāstra. This name resonates deeply with the Upaniṣadic teaching that the Absolute is 'not this, not this' (neti neti).

Atīndriya is a recognized epithet of Vishnu and occasionally of Brahman in non-sectarian Vedāntic texts; as a name it is pronounced uh-TEEN-dri-yuh.
