Shuchishravas (शुचिश्रवस्, IAST: Śuciśravas) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu boy-name meaning “He whose fame and hearing are pure”. From śuci (pure, radiant) and śravas (glory, renown, or hearing), this name enshrines Viṣṇu as the one whose celestial fame is spotlessly holy and whose very name purifies the listener upon hearing.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Śuci derives from the root śuc (to shine, to be bright, to grieve in purification) and denotes moral and ritual purity; śravas comes from the root śru (to hear) and means both 'fame' and 'that which is heard.' The name therefore carries a double grace: Viṣṇu's glory is intrinsically pure, and the act of hearing it immediately cleanses the devotee. This dual meaning makes the epithet especially prized in the context of śravaṇa—the devotional practice of listening to the Lord's names.

Lord Viṣṇu is celebrated by this name to encourage daily recitation: simply to hear Śuciśravas spoken aloud is itself an act of purification. Pronounced śu-ci-śra-vas, with both 'ś' sounds as palatal sibilants; commonly Romanised as Shuchishravas.
