Vedantavedya (वेदान्तवेद्य, IAST: Vedāntavedya) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu boy-name meaning “Knowable only through Vedanta”. From vedānta (the end or culmination of the Vedas, i.e., the Upanishads) and vedya (that which is to be known, from the root vid, to know), this name proclaims Vishnu as the supreme truth that the Upanishads alone reveal.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Vedānta literally means the end (anta) of the Vedas, referring to the Upanishads as the highest and final teaching of revealed scripture. Vedya, the gerundive of vid (to know), means that which is worth knowing or knowable, echoing the Muṇḍakopaniṣad's distinction between lower and higher knowledge, the latter being the knowledge of the imperishable. Vedāntavedya thus places Vishnu at the very apex of scriptural revelation as its ultimate subject.

This epithet of Vishnu honors the Lord as the living truth toward which all Vedantic inquiry points; as a given name, Vedanta is the more commonly used extract, borne by scholars and saints of the tradition.
