Brahmarupa (ब्रह्मरूपा, IAST: Brahmarūpā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She whose form is the Absolute Brahman”. Brahman (the infinite Absolute) and rūpā (having the form of) combine to declare that Lalitā's very appearance is not merely divine but identically Brahman, the supreme reality beyond qualities.

Meaning, etymology & significance

In Sanskrit philosophical discourse, brahman denotes the ultimate, formless reality underlying all existence, while rūpā asserts that this formlessness has taken the luminous form of the Goddess. The name thus resolves the apparent paradox between the personal Goddess and the impersonal Absolute, declaring them non-different: to behold Lalitā is to behold Brahman itself. This is the heart of the Śrīvidyā tradition's non-dual theology.

Brahmarūpā echoes the Upaniṣadic identity of ātman and brahman, here cast in the feminine mode of the Śākta revelation. Pronounced bra-hma-ROO-paa; the aspirated 'bh' should be clearly voiced.
