Jaradhvantaraviprabha (जराध्वान्तरविप्रभा, IAST: Jarādhvāntaraviprabhā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “Sunlight that dispels the darkness of old age”. From jarā (old age, decay) + dhvānta (darkness) + ravi (sun) + prabhā (radiance, splendour), Lalitā shines as the solar brilliance that banishes the gloom of aging and bodily decline.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Jarā — the creeping darkness of decay — is one of the great fears addressed throughout Vedic and Purāṇic literature. By naming Lalitā as the sun that dispels this particular darkness, the Sahasranāma offers devotees the assurance that her grace can renew what time erodes. Ravi's light is direct and total; nothing of the dhvānta of jarā survives in her radiant presence.

This epithet is particularly beloved among older devotees who recite the Sahasranāma as a prayer for vitality and inner renewal. Pronounced ja-raa-dhvaan-ta-ra-vi-pra-bhaa.
