Nityamukta (नित्यमुक्ता, IAST: nityamuktā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “Eternally liberated, ever-free from all bondage”. A compound of nitya (eternal) and muktā (liberated, released), this name proclaims that Lalitā was never bound — her liberation is not an attainment but her very nature from beginningless time.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Mukti (liberation) is the supreme goal of human existence in virtually every school of Hindu philosophy, but it is ordinarily conceived as something to be achieved through practice and grace. As Nityamuktā, the goddess reveals that she stands eternally beyond this process — she has no bondage to be released from, no ignorance to be dispelled. This is the supreme teaching embedded in her name: the Goddess herself is the very form of mokṣa, and by devotion to her the aspirant is drawn into that same eternal freedom.

Nityamuktā appears as an epithet of Lalitā in the Sahasranāma and is philosophically aligned with the Śaiva Siddhānta concept of the eternally liberated (nityamukta) Śiva; the name is pronounced ni-tya-muk-taa, with a clear retroflex ṭ.
