Prajnatmika (प्राज्ञात्मिका, IAST: Prājñātmikā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She whose essence is pure wisdom-consciousness”. Prājña names the witness-consciousness of deep sleep in Vedānta, and ātmikā proclaims Lalitā as the living essence of that all-knowing, blissful awareness.

Meaning, etymology & significance

The word prājña derives from pra (forth) + jñā (to know), denoting profound, comprehensive knowing; in the Māṇḍūkya Upaniṣad it names the self in the deep-sleep state, which is described as a mass of consciousness (prajñāna-ghana) and pure bliss. By calling the Goddess Prājñātmikā, the Sahasranāma declares that her innermost nature is that omniscient awareness which underlies all three ordinary states. This is not mere intellect but the pre-cognitive luminosity from which all wisdom springs.

Prājñātmikā pairs with Taijasātmikā and Turyā in a philosophically intricate cluster of names, mapping Lalitā onto Upaniṣadic consciousness theory. Pronounced praaj-nyaaT-mi-kaa; the combined 'jñ' is typically rendered as 'ny' in spoken Sanskrit.
