Sumerumadhyashringastha (सुमेरुमध्यशृङ्गस्था, IAST: Sumerumadhyaśṛṅgasthā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She who abides upon the central peak of Mount Sumeru”. From Sumeru (the sacred cosmic mountain), madhya (middle, central), śṛṅga (peak, summit), and sthā (one who dwells), this name places Lalitā at the very axis and pinnacle of the universe, enthroned at the cosmic center.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Mount Sumeru or Meru is the golden cosmic mountain at the center of the Hindu universe, the axis mundi around which all creation revolves. Its central peak (madhya-śṛṅga) is identified in Śrī Vidyā cosmology with the Śrī Cakra, the sacred geometric diagram that is Lalitā's very body and abode. The name thus declares that the Goddess reigns from the supreme still point of the cosmos, the center from which all manifestation radiates and to which all ultimately returns.

This epithet of Lalitā Mahātripurasundarī in the Lalitā Sahasranāma is deeply cosmological in nature and not suited for use as a given name in its full form. It is best appreciated as a sacred contemplative epithet; Śṛṅgā or Merudevī might serve as inspired shorter alternatives.
