Viyatprasūḥ

Viyatprasūḥ (वियत्प्रसूः, IAST: Viyatprasūḥ) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She who gives birth to the element of space”. From viyat ('sky, ether, ākāśa') + prasūḥ ('she who brings forth, mother of'), Viyatprasūḥ names the Goddess as the primordial creatrix who generates even the subtle element of space from her own being.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Viyat is a poetic and philosophical term for the sky or ether (ākāśa), the first and most subtle of the five great elements (pañcamahābhūtas) that constitute the manifest universe. As Viyatprasūḥ, Lalitā is declared to be the mother even of this most subtle element, meaning she is more primordial than space itself — the pure awareness from which even the first flicker of cosmic extension arises.
