Vaishakha Masa (April-May 2026 in North Indian Purnimanta calendar) is one of the most sacred months for Lord Vishnu worship. The early morning Vaishakha Snan (holy bath) before sunrise, followed by Tulsi Puja and Surya Arghya (water offering to the Sun), is considered highly meritorious.
According to the Skanda Purana (Vaishakha Mahatmya), performing this ritual daily destroys sins of many births, pleases Lord Madhusudana (Vishnu), and grants punya equivalent to all yajnas and austerities. Goddess Ganga and other tirthas reside in holy waters during Brahma Muhurta in this month, making the bath especially powerful.
Devotees who combine the snan with Tulsi worship (beloved of Vishnu) and Surya Arghya receive blessings of health, vitality, prosperity, and moksha.
Importance of Vaishakha Snan Puja with Tulsi and Surya Arghya
- Vaishakha Snan: Bathing before sunrise purifies body, mind, and soul. It is equivalent to bathing in all sacred rivers.
- Tulsi Puja: Tulsi (holy basil) is Vishnu’s favorite plant. Offering water, flowers, or performing Tulsi Aarti in Vaishakha multiplies the benefits and brings divine protection.
- Surya Arghya: Offering water to the rising Sun energizes the body, improves eyesight and vitality, and invokes Surya’s grace. In Vaishakha, this arghya is offered to Lord Madhusudana through Surya.
This simple morning ritual aligns the devotee with cosmic energy and fulfills desires when done with devotion.
Complete Step-by-Step Vaishakha Snan Puja Vidhi (2026)
Perform this ritual daily during Vaishakha Masa, ideally starting from the first day of the month (around April 3, 2026).
1. Preparation (Before Sunrise)
- Wake up during Brahma Muhurta (about 1.5 hours before sunrise).
- Take a sankalpa (vow): Fold your hands and mentally resolve — “For the pleasure of Lord Vishnu and destruction of my sins, I shall perform Vaishakha Snan today.”
- Wear clean, preferably white or saffron clothes after bath.
2. Vaishakha Snan (Holy Bath)
- If possible, bathe in Ganga, Yamuna, or any holy river/lake. At home, mix a few drops of Ganga Jal in your bathwater.
- While bathing, chant this mantra from Skanda Purana:
Madhusudan Devesha Vaishaakhe Meshage Ravai, Prathahsnaanam karishyaami nirvighnam kuru Madhava.
Meaning: O Madhusudana, Lord of Devas, in the month of Vaishakha when the Sun is in Mesha rashi, I am performing this morning bath. O Madhava, please make it obstacle-free and bless me.
- Also chant the invocation of holy rivers: “Gange cha Yamune chaiva Godavari Saraswati, Narmade Sindhu Kaveri jalesmin sannidhim kuru.”
3. Tulsi Puja (Worship of Holy Basil)
- After snan, go to your Tulsi plant (preferably in the courtyard or balcony, facing east).
- Offer water at the base of the Tulsi plant.
- Light a ghee lamp (diya) and incense in front of Tulsi.
- Offer fresh flowers, tulsi leaves (if available), or a small piece of sandalwood.
- Recite Tulsi Aarti or simple prayer: “Om Tulsi Devyai Namah” or read Tulsi Katha briefly.
- Many devotees also worship Shaligram along with Tulsi in Vaishakha for enhanced Vishnu blessings.
4. Surya Arghya (Water Offering to the Sun)
- Face the rising Sun (east direction).
- Take clean water in a copper vessel (lota). Add a pinch of kumkum, akshat (uncooked rice), red flower, and optionally a few Tulsi leaves.
- Hold the vessel with both hands and pour the water slowly in a thin stream while allowing sunlight to pass through it.
- Chant the following Surya Arghya Mantras (repeat 7, 11, or 108 times):
Primary Mantra:
ॐ एहि सूर्य सहस्त्रांशो तेजोराशे जगत्पते । अनुकम्पय मां भक्त्या गृहाणार्घ्यं नमोऽस्तु ते ॥
Popular Short Mantra:
ॐ घृणिः सूर्याय नमः (Om Ghrīṇiḥ Sūryāya Namaḥ)
Vaishakha-specific Arghya Mantra (from Skanda Purana):
Vaishaakhe Meshage Bhaanau Praathah Snaana paraayanah, Arghyam theham pradaasmahi gruhaana Madhusudana.
Meaning: O Sun God in Vaishakha when in Mesha rashi, I who have performed the morning bath offer this arghya to you. O Madhusudana, please accept it.
- After offering, apply a drop of the remaining water to your eyes and head for blessings.
- You may also recite Surya Gayatri Mantra or a few verses from Aditya Hridaya Stotra for extra merit.
5. Concluding the Puja
- Perform simple Vishnu Puja or recite Vishnu Sahasranama, Damodarashtakam, or Bhagavad Gita verses.
- Offer daan (charity) of water, curd, fruits, or clothes if possible.
- Maintain sattvic diet and positive thoughts throughout the day.
Benefits of Performing This Ritual Daily in Vaishakha 2026
- Destroys sins of crores of births
- Grants health, vitality, and protection from diseases
- Brings prosperity, success, and family happiness
