History of Sri Mariamman Temple
A Singapore National Monument whose origins stretch across centuries of Sanatana Dharma.
Founded in 1827 by Naraina Pillai — a clerk who arrived with Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819. The original attap structure was rebuilt in brick in 1843, and the present gopuram of six tiers with its sculptured pantheon dates from the 1930s restoration.
