Sheshadeava (शेषदेव, IAST: Śeṣadeva) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu boy-name meaning “The divine Lord who is Shesha”. From Śeṣa (the primordial cosmic serpent, meaning 'remainder' or 'the eternal residual') and deva (divine being/lord), this name honours Vishnu in his identity with or lordship over Śeṣa, the infinite serpent on whom the universe rests.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Śeṣa, also called Ananta ('the endless'), is the great serpent who supports the weight of all creation and upon whose coils Vishnu reclines in the milky ocean. The name Śeṣadeva may indicate that Vishnu himself is the ultimate reality remaining after all else dissolves—the eternal śeṣa-tattva. It also celebrates the Lord's intimate relationship with Śeṣa, who is counted among his foremost devotees and manifestations.

This name is used in Vaishnava communities to honour Vishnu's association with the eternal serpent; it is straightforwardly pronounced Shesha-de-va.
