Nihsimamahima (निःसीममहिमा, IAST: Niḥsīmamahimā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She of boundless, immeasurable glory”. From niḥ (without) + sīma (boundary, limit) + mahimā (glory, greatness), this epithet proclaims that Lalitā's splendour cannot be enclosed by any frontier — she is the glory that overflows every definition.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Sīma in Sanskrit refers to a boundary line, a margin, or even a horizon; niḥsīma therefore means that which has no such edge, the infinite. Mahimā, from the root mah ('to be great'), is one of the eight classical siddhis and also a name of Śiva, here feminised into mahimā to describe the Devī's sovereign grandeur. Together they form a majestic declaration that Lalitā's greatness is truly without shores.

This grammatically feminine compound is used as a reverential epithet within Sahasranāma recitation; as a given name it could be lovingly shortened to Mahima, which is itself a widely given girl's name in India. Pronounced nih-see-ma-ma-hi-mā, the visarga adds a subtle breath-release after the initial syllable.
