Prabharupa (प्रभारूपा, IAST: prabhārūpā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She whose very form is divine radiance itself”. Prabhārūpā combines prabhā (luminosity, splendor) and rūpā (whose form is), declaring that Lalitā does not merely shine but is identical with light — her being is luminosity undifferentiated.

Meaning, etymology & significance

While Prabhāvatī speaks of the Goddess possessing radiance, Prabhārūpā goes further: she IS radiance, her rūpa (form) being indistinguishable from prabhā itself. This reflects the Tantric understanding of Lalitā as parā-jyoti, the supreme light from which all illumination proceeds. The name echoes the Devi Upaniṣad's declaration that the Goddess is the light by which all things are seen.

Prabhārūpā appears as an epithet in several Śākta texts and is occasionally used as a given name in devotional families. It is most naturally shortened to Prabha or Rupa for everyday use; pronounced prub-haa-roo-paa.
