Trimurti (त्रिमूर्तिः, IAST: trimūrtiḥ) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She who embodies the triple divine form”. From 'tri' (three) and 'mūrti' (form, embodied image), Trimūrti declares that Lalitā simultaneously embodies the three cosmic functions — creation, preservation, and dissolution — usually associated with Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Śiva.

Meaning, etymology & significance

While 'Trimūrti' is commonly applied to the masculine triad of Brahmā-Viṣṇu-Maheśvara, in the Śākta view the Goddess subsumes and transcends all three — she is Sarasvatī (wisdom/creation), Lakṣmī (sustenance/preservation), and Kālī (transformation/dissolution) in one being. This name asserts the non-dual sovereignty of the Divine Mother over the entire cosmic cycle. Her one form contains and surpasses every triple manifestation of divinity.

As an epithet of Lalitā, Trimūrti reveals the Goddess's all-encompassing cosmic function recognized in Śākta Āgamas and commentaries. Pronounced tri-MOOR-tee, it can serve as a given name, though it is more commonly known in its masculine application; the feminine usage here is distinctly sacred.
