Tripurambika (त्रिपुराम्बिका, IAST: Tripurāmbikā) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “The mother of the three worlds, Tripurā”. From Tripurā (She of the three cities or planes) and ambikā (the dear mother), this name unites two of the Goddess's most exalted titles into one radiant declaration of Her universal motherhood.

Meaning, etymology & significance

Tripurā is one of the most ancient and venerated names of the Great Goddess, pointing to Her sovereignty over the three puras — cities, planes, or states of existence (waking, dream, and deep sleep; or the three worlds of earth, atmosphere, and heaven). Ambikā, from the root amba (mother), is a tender yet majestic term of address. Together they proclaim Lalitā as the cosmic Mother who encompasses and transcends all three planes of being.

Tripurāmbikā is a revered epithet of Lalitā Tripurasundarī and also a name of Pārvatī; it is used as a given name primarily in South India. Pronounced tri-pu-RAAM-bi-kaa; the compound sandhi between Tripurā and ambikā creates the long ā in Rām-.
