Jai Shri Vishnu! Thursday, June 25, 2026 is Nirjala Ekadashi — the most austere and rewarding of all 24 Ekadashis. Known as Pandava Nirjala Ekadashi or Bhimseni Ekadashi, it grants the combined merit of observing every Ekadashi in the year.
This guide is part of our complete June 2026 Hindu festivals calendar.
The Legendary Story
Sage Vyasa told the Pandavas that observing all Ekadashis brings moksha. Bhima, unable to fast due to his huge appetite, was given this one vrat by Vyasa. Bhima observed it without even a drop of water and received the full merit of all 24 — which is why it is called the “King of Ekadashis.” “Nir-jala” means “without water”: the austerity is extreme, especially in June’s heat, symbolising complete surrender and inner fire (tapas).
Rituals (Very Strict)
Wake at Brahma Muhurta; holy bath.
Vishnu puja with Tulsi, lamps and yellow cloth; chant “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” at least 108 times.
No food and no water from sunrise on June 25 to sunrise on June 26 (drink water only if medically necessary).
Read the Nirjala Ekadashi Katha in the evening; stay awake as much as possible.
Parana on June 26 after sunrise — first water, then light fruits, milk or khichdi.
