Uma Maheshwara Vratam is observed on Bhadrapada Purnima, worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati together as Uma Maheshwara — the ideal divine couple. It is a symbol of the unity of Shiva and Shakti and of divine marital harmony.

Significance of the Vrata

On the full moon of Bhadrapada, Shiva and Parvati are worshipped as Uma Maheshwara. The vrata includes abhishekam, alankaranam (adornment), deeparadhana, naivedyam, chanting of Shiva's names, and mantra japa. Devotees observe a fast or a niyama (discipline) and offer charity according to their means.
