Bandhamochani (बन्धमोचनी, IAST: Bandhamochanī) is a Sanskrit-origin Hindu girl-name meaning “She who liberates all beings from bondage”. From 'bandha' (bondage, fetter) and 'mocanī' (she who releases), Bandhamochanī names Lalitā as the supreme liberatrix who cuts every chain — karmic, mental, or cosmic.

Meaning, etymology & significance

In Vedāntic and Śākta thought, 'bandha' refers to the entanglement of the soul in the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, as well as the subtler fetters of ego and ignorance. 'Mocanī' derives from the root 'muc' (to release, to free), combined with the feminine suffix. Lalitā as Bandhamochanī is thus the direct bestower of mokṣa, dissolving the threefold bondage of āṇava, māyīya, and kārma malas.

This liberating aspect of Lalitā is particularly revered in the Śrī Vidyā tradition, where her upāsanā is understood as the most direct path to final liberation. Pronounced bun-dha-moh-chah-NEE, it makes a spiritually resonant girl's name.
