Every major Hindu festival of November and December 2026 for Brazil, with local dates for São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Salvador, Recife and Manaus: Dhanteras (Fri 6 Nov), Diwali (Sun 8 Nov), Chhath, Dev Uthani Ekadashi (Fri 20 Nov), Kalabhairav Jayanti (Mon 30 Nov), Masik Shivaratri (Sun 6 Dec), Vaikuntha Ekadashi and Gita Jayanti (Sun 20 Dec), Datta Jayanti (Wed 23 Dec), Saphala Ekadashi and the start of Dhanurmasam, with the days that differ from India.
Quick answer: the main Hindu festivals November–December 2026 in Brazil are Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, Diwali on Sunday 8 November, Dev Uthani Ekadashi on Friday 20 November, Kalabhairav Jayanti on Monday 30 November, Utpanna Ekadashi on Friday 4 December, Masik Shivaratri on Sunday 6 December, Vivah Panchami on Monday 14 December, Champa Shashti on Tuesday 15 December, Vaikuntha Ekadashi and Gita Jayanti on Sunday 20 December and Datta Jayanti on Wednesday 23 December. Dhanurmasam begins with the first dawn of Wednesday 16 December, and Saphala Ekadashi closes the season on Sunday 3 January 2027 (in Manaus, Smarta households keep Saturday 2 January).
Most of these dates are the same in all nine Brazilian cities we calculated and the same as India. The exceptions are worth knowing: Kalabhairav Jayanti and Masik Shivaratri come one day earlier than in India; Vaishnava Dev Uthani Ekadashi is a day earlier too; and Chhath and Manaus's Saphala Ekadashi need a closer look, explained below.
How these dates were made: Brazilian city dates and times are from HinduTone's calculator (Drik method; sunrise and sunset matched to Drik Panchang). They are calculated, so confirm on Drik Panchang for your city and follow your temple's calendar. India dates marked Drik are from Drik Panchang (New Delhi).

Manaus is one hour behind São Paulo, which is why its Saphala Ekadashi differs. Salvador and Recife share São Paulo's clock time but have earlier sunsets, which matters for Chhath and for the Lakshmi Puja muhurat.
Where Brazilian dates differ from India
| Festival | India (Drik) | Brazil (our cities) |
|---|---|---|
| Chhath: evening arghya | Sun 15 Nov (Sandhya Arghya) | Shashti at sunset Sat 14 Nov; in Recife Sat 14 and Sun 15 Nov |
| Dev Uthani Ekadashi | Smarta Fri 20 Nov · Vaishnava Sat 21 Nov | Fri 20 Nov for both |
| Kalabhairav Jayanti | Tue 1 Dec | Mon 30 Nov |
| Masik Shivaratri | Mon 7 Dec | Sun 6 Dec |
| Saphala Ekadashi | Sun 3 Jan 2027 | Sun 3 Jan 2027; Manaus Smarta Sat 2 Jan, Vaishnava Sun 3 Jan |
| Dhanteras, Diwali, Utpanna, Vivah Panchami, Champa Shashti, Vaikuntha, Datta Jayanti | Same days | Same days |
The reason is simple: each festival is fixed by the tithi at a particular local moment (sunrise for Ekadashi, Pradosh for Diwali, midnight for Kalabhairav Jayanti and Shivaratri). Brazil's clock is hours behind India's, so the same tithi can cover a different local day.
November 2026 festivals in Brazil
Dhanteras and Diwali (Fri 6 and Sun 8 Nov)
Dhanteras is the evening to light a lamp for Dhanvantari and Yama and to bring home something new in metal. Diwali on Sunday 8 November is the night of Lakshmi Puja; because Amavasya prevails at the local Pradosh in every city, there is no split date. Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj are Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 November in India (Drik); we have not calculated them for Brazil, so check Drik Panchang for your city. Full city-wise muhurat, a home puja and safety tips are in our Diwali 2026 Brazil guide.
Chhath Puja (Sat 14 or Sun 15 Nov)
Chhath, the four-day festival of the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, is central for families from Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern Uttar Pradesh. In India the days are Nahay Khay Friday 13, Kharna Saturday 14, Sandhya Arghya Sunday 15 and Usha Arghya Monday 16 November (Drik Panchang).
Our Brazilian calculation gives a different picture. Shashti tithi prevails at local sunset on Saturday 14 November in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Salvador and Manaus; in Recife it prevails at sunset on both Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November. Some families therefore offer the evening arghya on Saturday 14 and the dawn arghya on Sunday 15; others keep India's dates, Sunday 15 evening and Monday 16 dawn. We present both; follow your family tradition or your community. Sunset and sunrise times for each option:
| City | Sat 14 Nov sunset | Sun 15 Nov sunrise | Sun 15 Nov sunset | Mon 16 Nov sunrise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| São Paulo | 6:29 PM | 5:12 AM | 6:30 PM | 5:12 AM |
| Rio de Janeiro | 6:14 PM | 4:59 AM | 6:15 PM | 4:59 AM |
| Brasília | 6:22 PM | 5:29 AM | 6:22 PM | 5:29 AM |
| Belo Horizonte | 6:12 PM | 5:07 AM | 6:13 PM | 5:07 AM |
| Curitiba | 6:43 PM | 5:19 AM | 6:43 PM | 5:19 AM |
| Porto Alegre | 6:59 PM | 5:19 AM | 7:00 PM | 5:18 AM |
| Salvador | 5:40 PM | 4:56 AM | 5:41 PM | 4:56 AM |
| Recife | 5:19 PM | 4:48 AM | 5:19 PM | 4:48 AM |
| Manaus | 5:53 PM | 5:35 AM | 5:53 PM | 5:35 AM |
Brazil has the sea and many rivers and lakes, but check local safety and access rules before standing in water at dawn, and never go alone. A bucket or tub on a terrace is a perfectly traditional alternative. See Chhath Puja 2026 and Chhath prasad recipes.
Dev Uthani Ekadashi (Fri 20 Nov)
Also called Prabodhini Ekadashi, this is the day Vishnu wakes from his four-month yoga nidra, as commonly told, ending Chaturmas and reopening the season for weddings. In Brazil it is Friday 20 November for both Smarta and Vaishnava families. Tulasi Vivah, the ceremonial marriage of the tulasi plant to Vishnu, follows in India on Saturday 21 November (Drik); we have not calculated it for Brazil, so follow your family or temple. See Karthika Ekadashi 2026 and Tulsi Vivah 2026.
Kalabhairav Jayanti (Mon 30 Nov)
The appearance day of Kala Bhairava, the fierce guardian form of Shiva, is fixed by the Ashtami that covers local midnight. In Brazil that is Monday 30 November, one day before India's Tuesday 1 December. A simple evening lamp and a Bhairava or Shiva stotra are enough at home. More in our Kalabhairava Jayanti 2026 guide.
December 2026 festivals in Brazil
Utpanna Ekadashi (Fri 4 Dec) and Masik Shivaratri (Sun 6 Dec)
As commonly told, the goddess Ekadashi arose from Vishnu to defeat the demon Mura, which is why Utpanna Ekadashi is the traditional day to begin a year of Ekadashi fasts (Utpanna Ekadashi 2026). Masik Shivaratri, the monthly night of Shiva, is Sunday 6 December in Brazil and Monday 7 December in India; a home abhishekam with water or milk and the chant "Om Namah Shivaya" suits a Sunday evening (Karthika Masa Shivaratri 2026).
Vivah Panchami (Mon 14 Dec) and Champa Shashti (Tue 15 Dec)
Vivah Panchami celebrates the wedding of Rama and Sita, as commonly told; families read the wedding episode from the Ramayana or Ramcharitmanas (Vivah Panchami 2026). The next day is Champa Shashti for Maharashtrian devotees of Khandoba and Subrahmanya Shashti for devotees of Murugan in the south (Subrahmanya Shashti 2026).
Dhanurmasam begins (first dawn Wed 16 Dec)
Dhanu Sankranti, the Sun's entry into Sagittarius, falls at 1:41 AM on Wednesday 16 December in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and the other cities on Brasília time, and at 12:41 AM in Manaus. The first Dhanurmasam (Tamil Margazhi) dawn is therefore Wednesday 16 December, and the last is Thursday 14 January 2027; the Makar Sankranti moment that day is 12:26 PM local time (11:26 AM in Manaus). In Brazil this month of dawn worship falls in early summer, when the sun rises early, so Tiruppavai and kolam need an early alarm. See Dhanurmasam 2026 dates and Tiruppavai schedule.
Vaikuntha Ekadashi and Gita Jayanti (Sun 20 Dec)
Mokshada Ekadashi falls inside Dhanurmasam this year, so it is also Vaikuntha (Mukkoti) Ekadashi, and it is Gita Jayanti, the day Krishna taught the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna, as commonly told. In all nine Brazilian cities both Smarta and Vaishnava families fast on Sunday 20 December, the same day as India. For ISKCON devotees and yoga students it is a natural day to read the Gita together. Fasting, parana and a reading plan are in our Vaikuntha Ekadashi and Gita Jayanti 2026 Brazil guide.
Datta Jayanti (Wed 23 Dec) and Saphala Ekadashi (3 Jan 2027)
Margashirsha Purnima on Wednesday 23 December is Datta Jayanti, the birth of Lord Dattatreya, son of sage Atri and Anasuya as commonly told (Datta Jayanti 2026). Saphala Ekadashi follows in the new year: Sunday 3 January 2027 in eight cities and in India. In Manaus, the calculation gives Saturday 2 January for Smarta households and Sunday 3 January for Vaishnava traditions, which use a stricter rule about the preceding Dashami tithi. Telugu and Marathi families keeping the Margashirsha Thursday vratam will find the Thursdays fall on 10, 17, 24 and 31 December and 7 January 2027 in every city.
Practical tips for the Brazilian summer festival season
- Heat and fasting: November and December are late spring and early summer in Brazil, hot and humid in Manaus and the north-east. On Ekadashi, drink enough water if your tradition allows it, and choose a fruit-and-milk fast if you are unsure. Children, pregnant women, older people and anyone with diabetes or on medication should ask a doctor first.
- Holiday season: Vaikuntha Ekadashi and Datta Jayanti fall in the busy week before Christmas, and many families travel in January. Plan the Saphala Ekadashi fast around New Year travel.
- Community: the Hindu community is small and concentrated in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, with ISKCON centres and yoga schools in many cities. Our Hindu temples and spiritual centres in Brazil guide gives an overview; check each centre's own channels for current programmes.
