Quick answer: Karthika Pournami 2026 Singapore date is Tuesday 24 November 2026. By our calculation, Purnima tithi begins at 2:13 AM and ends at 10:54 PM on Tuesday 24 November (Singapore time), and sunset is at about 6:54 PM. Purnima spans the whole of 24 November, so the morning puja and the evening lamps both fall inside Purnima. Karthigai Deepam is on the same day.

This guide gives the Singapore timings, explains how the day fits with Karthigai Deepam, and covers the 365-wick deepam, Jwala Thoranam, Satyanarayana vratam, deepa daanam and lamp safety for HDB flats and condominiums.

Please note: the Singapore dates and times in this guide are calculated by HinduTone using the Drik Panchang method. They match Drik Panchang in our checks for other countries, but small differences are possible. Please confirm on Drik Panchang for Singapore. All times are Singapore local time; do not use India's clock times.

Karthika Pournami 2026 Singapore: Purnima time and sunset

Singapore is close to the equator, so sunset barely changes in November: about 6:51 PM on 9 November and 6:54 PM on 24 November (calculated). That makes planning the evening lamp easy: on Pournami, dusk comes about four hours before Purnima ends.

How the day unfolds in Singapore

A Hindu festival is usually fixed by the tithi at sunrise. In Singapore, Purnima begins in the early hours of Tuesday and is running at sunrise and sunset alike, so there is no Monday-or-Tuesday question this year. Families in the UK and Europe face that choice, but Singapore does not.

  • Monday 23 November: a Karthika Somavaram. Keep the usual Shiva puja and evening lamp. Purnima has not yet begun.
  • Tuesday 24 November, morning: bath before puja (Karthika snanam), Satyanarayana vratam or a temple visit.
  • Tuesday 24 November, from sunset (about 6:54 PM): light the Pournami deepam, the 365-wick lamp and the rows of Karthigai Deepam lamps, all inside Purnima, which lasts until 10:54 PM.

If your temple or family follows a different custom, follow that, and ask the priest when in doubt.

Rituals of Karthika Pournami

Karthika Pournami is the brightest night of the Karthika month. As commonly told, it marks Shiva's victory over the three demon cities (Tripurasura), and so it is also called Tripurari Pournami. Both Shaiva and Vaishnava families honour it.

Karthigai Deepam: the Tamil festival of lamps

For Singapore's large Tamil Hindu community, 24 November is above all Karthigai Deepam. Homes are lined with small clay lamps (agal vilakku) at dusk. As commonly told, the festival recalls the endless column of fire in which Shiva appeared to Brahma and Vishnu, honoured at Tiruvannamalai with the Maha Deepam. See Karthigai Deepam 2026.

365-wick deepam (365 vattula deepam)

Many Telugu families light one lamp with 365 cotton wicks twisted together, one for each day of the year. As commonly told, lighting it on Pournami brings the merit of a lamp lit every day of the year. See our complete guide to the 365-wick deepam.

Jwala Thoranam

In many Shiva temples of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, a frame of straw or cloth (the thoranam) is set alight on Pournami night, and the deity is carried beneath it. It is a temple ritual. If a Singapore temple holds a Karthika Pournami or Karthigai Deepam programme, it will announce it; check the temple's official website for current timings.

Satyanarayana vratam

Pournami is a favoured day for the Satyanarayana vratam and katha. Families often hold it at home on Tuesday 24 November or on the following weekend. Ask your priest about timing.

Deepa daanam and Karthika snanam

Gifting a lit lamp (deepa daanam) is a traditional act of the day. A bath at home before puja stands in for the river bath of India. See Karthika snanam and deepa daanam 2026.

Lamp safety in HDB flats and condos

Most Singapore families live in high-rise HDB flats or condominiums. Lamps are a beautiful part of the day, but a 365-wick lamp burns with a large flame, and many lamps lit together add up.

  • Place every lamp on a metal tray or in a clay holder on a stable, heat-proof surface, away from curtains, flowers and paper decorations.
  • Keep common corridors clear and do not leave lit lamps outside your door. Check your town council's or condo management's rules.
  • Avoid open flames on windy ledges and window grilles, and never leave a lit lamp alone.
  • Keep children and pets away from lamp rows, especially when lamps are at floor level.
  • Keep a damp cloth or small fire extinguisher nearby. Use LED diyas wherever open flames are not practical.

Tips for Hindu families in Singapore

  • Tuesday 24 November is a working and school day. With sunset just before 7 PM and Purnima lasting until 10:54 PM, there is plenty of time to get home and light lamps.
  • Karthika Masam in Singapore runs from Tuesday 10 November to Tuesday 8 December 2026 (calculated), and the Somavarams are 16, 23 and 30 November and 7 December.
  • Community programmes and group pujas may be held on the weekend. Check your temple's announcements rather than relying on past years.
  • Singapore is ahead of India's clock, so your evening lamps will be lit before your family's in India.
