Dhanteras 2026 — Date & Muhurat

  • Date: Friday, 6 November 2026
  • Puja: Lakshmi, Kubera and Dhanvantari worship in the evening (Pradosh Kaal)

Significance of Dhanteras

"Dhan" means wealth and "teras" the thirteenth tithi. The day honours Dhanvantari, who emerged with the pot of amrita during the Samudra Manthan, and Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity. Buying metal — especially gold and silver — is believed to invite wealth into the home.

What to Buy & Do

  • Gold or silver coins/jewellery, or new utensils
  • A new broom (symbolising the sweeping in of prosperity)
  • Diyas and puja items for the days ahead
  • Light 13 diyas in the evening; perform Lakshmi-Kubera puja

Share the Diwali 2026 blessing

Dhanteras opens the festival of lights with a prayer for the truest wealth of all: good health and a peaceful heart. As we light the first lamps of Diwali 2026 and remember Lord Dhanvantari rising with the pot of amrita, may the little flame in each diya kindle the inner light within us, and may Maa Lakshmi's gentle grace fill every home.
