The Shri Shiva Vishnu Temple (HSV), proudly recognized as the largest Hindu temple in Australia, is actively recruiting a dedicated full-time Shivacharya (Hindu Priest) to serve its vibrant community in Melbourne, Victoria. Located at 52 Boundary Rd, Carrum Downs VIC 3201, this magnificent temple complex, owned and operated by the Hindu Society of Victoria (HSV), features 18 shrines housing 45 deities and follows authentic Shivagama traditions in the Shaivite sector alongside Vaikhanasa sastras in the Vaishnavite sector.

Key Responsibilities for the Shivacharya Role

The selected priest will lead comprehensive temple services with precision and devotion:

  • Perform daily poojas, aartis, abhishekams, Vedic ceremonies, and rituals strictly as per Hindu Agama shastra.
  • Conduct special pujas, BrahmothsavamsKumbhabishekams, utsavams, homams, and major festivals.
  • Specialize in Shaivite traditions while serving multiple shrines and deities across the temple.
  • Sanctify deities, moolasthanam (sanctum sanctorum), and temple properties; prepare naivedyam and prasadam.
  • Guide other priests, attend to devotees’ spiritual needs, manage event preparations, and promote Hindu culture.
  • Handle accounting of offerings and perform additional duties as directed by temple management.

This full-time role demands unwavering commitment to temple schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and festival periods.

Who We’re Looking For: Requirements and Qualifications

HSV seeks a highly qualified and traditionally trained candidate:

  • Brahmin by birth/tradition.
  • Strictly follow the traditional Shivacharya dress code.
  • Completed general education up to Year 12 (or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years of Vedic education in a Gurukula or under a recognized/qualified Guru.
  • Minimum 5 years experience as Shivacharya in a reputed temple.
  • Proven ability to perform Brahmothsavams and Kumbhabishekams.
  • Able to speak and write English fluently for community interaction.
  • Dedicated to full-time temple service and teamwork.
