Shree Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Mandir, Salangpur

Gujarat Tourism and the temple both credit Sadguru Gopalanand Swami, a saint of the Swaminarayan tradition, with installing the image of Hanuman (Gujarat Tourism; Shree Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Mandir). According to the temple's account, he visited Salangpur after Swaminarayan's lifetime and heard from the devotee Vaghakhachar and other villagers that years of drought had left them in hardship (Shree Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Mandir).

The same account says Gopalanand Swami drew the design of the image himself and had it carved by a sculptor named Kanji Mistri, and that at the consecration the image trembled as the deity entered it (Shree Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Mandir). Temple tradition adds that he left his staff at the temple, and that water sprinkled with it is believed to calm disturbances (Shree Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Mandir). These are accounts of the tradition rather than documented historical record.

In April 2023, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a giant statue of Hanuman at the temple (The Week). The Federal reported the unveiling of the 54-foot statue on Hanuman Jayanti, 6 April 2023 (The Federal). The temple calls this statue the 'King of Salangpur' and describes it as made of panchdhatu, a five-metal alloy (Shree Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Mandir).

Murals on the statue's pedestal showing Hanuman at the feet of Swaminarayan led to protests by sants in 2023, and after a meeting in Ahmedabad the temple authorities agreed to remove them (The Week).
