Quick answer: there are 12 Sankashti Chaturthis in 2027, from Sakat Chauth on Monday 25 January to Akhuratha Sankashti on Thursday 16 December. The Angaraki (Tuesday) Sankashti is Tuesday 22 June, and Karwa Chauth is Monday 18 October. What is Sankashti Chaturthi?

Sankashti Chaturthi is the monthly Ganesha fast on Chaturthi, the fourth lunar day of the waning fortnight. Sankashti means release from difficulties, and devotees pray to Ganesha for strength in hard times. The fast is kept from sunrise and ends at night after seeing the moon and offering it water (arghya). Each month's Sankashti has a name for a form of Ganesha, such as Lambodara, Dwijapriya, Vikata or Vakratunda.

How to read the tables: dates, names and tithi times are from Drik Panchang for New Delhi, and the date is the same in all six Indian cities for every Sankashti of 2027. Delhi moonrise is Drik's time; the other cities are our calculation using Drik's convention (centre of the moon on a flat horizon), which matches Drik within a minute or two. Hills, buildings and haze can delay the moment you actually see the moon, so allow 10 to 15 minutes.

Sankashti Chaturthi 2027 abroad: dates and moonrise

A tithi (lunar day) starts and ends at the same moment all over the world, but the rule that fixes the vrat day is local: it looks at sunrise, sunset, moonrise or midnight where you live. Those happen at different clock times in every city, so the same tithi can land on a different calendar date abroad. In practice the date is most often a day earlier in North America and sometimes a day later in Australia and East Asia; London and Dubai usually match India. Do not convert India's date or clock time into your time zone. Use the row for your own city, or set your panchang app to your city.

Reading the city table: each cell is the Sankashti date in that city and the local moonrise; bold means the date differs from India. New York, Toronto, London, Singapore and Sydney are from Drik Panchang's 2027 Sankashti pages; Dubai, and moonrise on the few nights Drik groups under a festival name, are calculated. 'After midnight' means the moon rises in the early hours of the next calendar day; the fast still belongs to the evening shown.

In 2027 the Sankashti date in New York and Toronto is a day earlier than India 4 and 4 times; London differs 2 times and Sydney 3 times.

Vancouver: by our calculation (Vancouver on UTC−7 all year), Vancouver keeps the same Sankashti date as New York on 9 of the 12 dates; it differs on Sun 24 Jan, Fri 26 Mar, Sat 18 Sep. Drik Panchang's Canada pages may still use the old winter clock, so check the date your temple announces.

Clocks used abroad: every date is for local clock time. New York and Toronto change to daylight saving time on 14 March and back on 7 November 2027; London changes on 28 March and 31 October; Sydney leaves daylight saving on 4 April and starts again on 3 October. Dubai (UTC+4) and Singapore (UTC+8) do not change. Canada: from November 2026 British Columbia stays on UTC−7, Alberta on UTC−6 and Manitoba on UTC−5 all year. In winter that is one hour ahead of the old standard time, so an app that has not been updated will show Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg times an hour early, and dates near midnight can be wrong. Toronto keeps the usual Eastern time changes.

How to keep Sankashti Chaturthi

  • Morning: bathe, light a lamp before Ganesha and make a short sankalpa.
  • Day: fast as your health allows: fruit, milk and sabudana are common, or one simple meal.
  • Evening: offer durva grass, red flowers and modak or ladoo to Ganesha, chant a Ganesha stotram or his names, and read the month's Sankashti katha if your family has it.
  • Moonrise: see the moon, offer arghya (water with a little milk, rice and a flower), then take prasad and break the fast.
  • Cloudy night: many families offer arghya at the published moonrise time, facing the eastern sky, and then eat. Follow your family custom.

Sankashti fasting and health

Health note: a Sankashti fast is a personal discipline, not a test of endurance. Children, older people, pregnant or breastfeeding women and anyone with diabetes, low blood pressure, an eating disorder or regular medication should talk to a doctor first. They can keep a fruit-and-milk fast, eat one simple meal, or simply do the puja without fasting. Drink water unless your doctor is happy with a waterless fast, and stop if you feel faint or unwell. Because the fast ends late at night, people who need regular meals can eat fruit or a light snack during the day. This page does not promise any particular result; the vrat is an offering of attention and devotion.

Frequently asked questions

How many Sankashti Chaturthis are there in 2027?

Twelve, one in the waning fortnight of each month. The first is Sakat Chauth (Lambodara Sankashti) on Monday 25 January and the last is Akhuratha Sankashti on Thursday 16 December 2027 (India).

Is there an Angaraki Sankashti in 2027?

Yes. A Sankashti on a Tuesday is called Angaraki Sankashti. In 2027 it is Krishnapingala Sankashti on Tuesday 22 June in India, with moonrise in Delhi at about 9:57 PM.

When is Karwa Chauth 2027?

Monday 18 October 2027. Karwa Chauth falls on the same Krishna Chaturthi as Vakratunda Sankashti; Delhi moonrise that night is about 7:35 PM by our calculation.

What is the moonrise time on Sankashti in Delhi?

It ranges from about 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM through the year: the table lists every 2027 Sankashti with the Drik Panchang moonrise time for New Delhi (calculated for the three nights Drik lists under festival names) and calculated times for five other Indian cities.

Can I use India's moonrise time in the USA or UK?

No. Moonrise depends on where you are, and the date itself can differ. Use the date and time for your city in the table, or your local panchang.

What if the moon rises after midnight?

In some cities abroad, the moon rises in the small hours after midnight. Drik Panchang keeps the Sankashti on the evening before (the night you stay up for the moon), and our table does the same, marking those times 'after midnight'.

Editor's note

Editor's note (25 October 2026): the India dates and tithi times are from Drik Panchang's 2027 list pages for New Delhi, checked against Drik's Hyderabad calendar. City dates and moonrise abroad are from Drik's 2027 Sankashti pages for New York, London (cached 23 October 2026), Toronto, Singapore and Sydney (fetched 25 October 2026). Delhi moonrise is Drik's; other moonrise times are calculated. Where our calculator and Drik disagreed, we used Drik. Festival dates can be revised by temples and regional calendars, and your family or temple tradition comes first; if your local temple announces a different day, follow the temple.
