Heritage
The story carved into stone, copper, and prayer.
The temple, set inside Periyar Tiger Reserve, traces its origins to the legend of Ayyappa who was raised by the king of Pandalam and later merged with the deity at Sabari hill.
Sacred Offerings
Offerings performed by ordained priests under the guidance of vedic tradition — for every milestone of life.
₹250 / ghee
The signature offering — ghee from the irumudi is poured over the 18 steps deity. Each pilgrim's personal seva, completing the 41-day vratham.
₹25,000
Offering performed on the 18 sacred Pathinettampadi steps with flowers, lamps and silken cloth. Booked months in advance.
₹15,000
Floral abhishekam — the moolavar is bathed in fresh forest blossoms collected from the slopes of Sabari Hill.
₹50
The legendary jaggery-rice prasadam unique to Sabarimala, prepared in cauldrons within the temple kitchen.
₹50,000
Day-long worship from sunrise to sunset — sponsored seva in which all rituals of the day are performed in the devotee's name.
₹6,000
Sandal-paste abhishekam — applied to the deity in the cool of dawn before the day's darshan begins.
Daily Worship
Open every day of the week. Each hour carries its own fragrance, its own prayer.
Sacred Calendar
Days that turn the temple into a constellation of light, music, and shared prayer.
41-day pilgrimage season culminating in the Mandala Pooja. Millions of black-clad pilgrims complete the 41-day vratham and trek to the sannidhanam.
On Makara Sankranti, the sacred Thiruvabharanam ornaments arrive from Pandalam and the celestial Makara Jyothi is sighted on the horizon.
Malayalam new year — the temple opens specially and Vishukkani is arranged before the deity at dawn.
Ten-day Onam celebrations — Pookalam decorations, traditional Onasadya for pilgrims and special daily aartis.
Annual ten-day uthsavam in the Malayalam month of Meenam — kodiyettu, daily processions and arattu in the Pampa river.
Anniversary of the temple's consecration — sanctum is opened specially and abhishekams continue from sunrise.
Sacred Moments
A visual pilgrimage — captured in the soft light of dusk and the gold of dawn.

Devotee Voices
Words from those whose lives were touched within these walls.
My first irumudi was 12 years ago. Climbing the 18 steps that night, with no torch, only the chant of Saranam — I understood why my father wept the day he came down.
Forty-one days of vratham. No shoes, no shaving, no comforts. The first cool drop of the Pampa on my forehead — that was prasadam enough for the year.
Watching the Makara Jyothi rise as I held my husband's hand — that flame is still burning somewhere in my chest.
My father carried me up these hills as a baby. Forty years later I carried him on my shoulders for his last darshan. Swamiye Sharanam Ayyappa.
