Eklavya did NOT take part in the Kurukshetra war. The reason: he had already died at the hands of Lord Krishna before the war began.

1. The death of Eklavya

Even after giving his thumb to Dronacharya as guru-dakshina, Eklavya determinedly mastered archery with his remaining fingers. However, he became a friend of Jarasandha, the king of Magadha — and Jarasandha was Krishna’s enemy. When Jarasandha attacked Mathura, Eklavya assisted him.

2. The battle with Lord Krishna

In a battle between the Yadavas and Jarasandha’s army, Eklavya confronted Krishna. Seeing his extraordinary martial skill — and foreseeing that he would one day stand against dharma (against the Pandavas) — Krishna slew him. (Some texts say with the Sudarshana Chakra, others say he was struck down with a rock.)

3. What Krishna told Arjuna

“Arjuna! For your sake I had already finished Jarasandha, Shishupala and Eklavya. Had Eklavya lived, he would have fought on the side of the Kauravas. Even without his thumb he was invincible in battle; none could have defeated him.”

4. Eklavya’s son

Although Eklavya himself did not fight, his son Ketuman fought on the Kaurava side in the Kurukshetra war — and was killed by Bhima.

Conclusion

Foreseeing that Eklavya’s unmatched skill would surpass even Arjuna and that he would stand on the side of adharma, Krishna ended him before the war. Hence he was not present in the Kurukshetra war.
