Religious Significance of Trichambaram Sri Krishna Temple, Taliparamba

According to Kerala Tourism, Krishna is shown seated in the raudra posture, after Kamsavadham, the killing of Kamsa. Wikipedia lists the temple among the Abhimana Kshetrams, a group of revered Vaishnava shrines. A Kerala Tourism festival profile says the temple is popularly called 'North Guruvayur' and regarded by devotees as equal in standing to the Guruvayur temple. The same profile records the tradition that the place takes its name from 'Thiru Shambara', after the sage Shambara who is believed to have meditated here.

Elephants are not part of the festival here, unlike at most large Kerala temple festivals. Kerala Tourism explains this by a belief linked to the deity: Kamsa had sent an elephant to kill Krishna, so elephants are kept away from the temple.

The festival is built around the bond between the two brothers. According to a story recorded on the Namboothiri community website namboothiri.com, an elderly devotee who could no longer walk to the temple was blessed when Krishna and Balarama danced in front of his house. The festival dance re-enacts this, and its closing rite marks the parting of the brothers.
