Chilkur Balaji Temple.

One of the oldest temples in Telangana. Most worshipped temples by the devotees of Hyderabad. People here believe that all their wishes get fulfilled including one’s visa application.

This temple is located 25 kilometres from Hyderabad off the Vikarabad road and on the banks of Osman Sagar is the charming village of Chikur with its ancient temple dedicated to Lord Sri Balaji Venkateshwara Swamy. From the style and structure of the temple, it can be hinted that the temple was built 1000 years ago. Set in rural surroundings, the temple attracts thousands of wanderers every year and is an ideal place for sequestered meditation. It enjoyed in the past, great days of grandeur and majesty.

The history of this temple infers that the temple is one of the oldest in Telengana, built during the time of Akkanna and Madanna, the uncles of Bhakta Ramdasu. According to the story, a devotee who used to visit the divine temple Tirupati every year could not do so of serious ill-health. Lord Venkateshwara Swamy appeared in his dream and said, “I am right here in the jungle nearby you and no need of getting worried” The devotee at once moved to the place indicated by the Lord Venkateshwara in the dream and saw a molehill there, which he dug up later. Accidentally, the axe got stuck on Lord Balaji’s idol covered by the mole-hill below the chin and on the chest, and surprisingly blood started flowing extensively from the “wounds” from the idol, flooding the ground and turning it red. The devotee could not believe his eyes and he could not believe his ears also when he heard a voice from the air which said, “Immerse the mole-hill with cow’s milk. “When the devotee did so, the idol of Lord Balaji Swami accompanied by Goddess Sridevi and Goddess Bhoodevi was found, and this idol was installed with the due services and a temple built for it.

Sri Balaji Venkateshwara Swami, considered the Pratyaksha Daivam in kaliyugam, is available at Chilkur Temple to shower blessings on His devotees who are unable to go to Tirupati Temple. Many worshippers visit the temple, to receive the blessings of the Lord Balaji during the Poolangi, Annakota and Brahmothsavams.

With the sincere desire to restore the former grandeur and importance of the temple, the idol of Goddess Ammavaru was installed in the year 1963 and Ammavaru was given the name of Rajya Lakshmi.

One of the beliefs of Chilkur Balaji Swami Devotees has to follow a ritual if they want their wishes to get fulfilled. Devotees have to perform eleven parikramas around the sanctum while making the wish with devotion. Later, they have to perform 108 pradhakshanalu or rounds once their wish is fulfilled.
