Religious Significance of ISKCON Temple, Vrindavan (Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir)

The temple has three altars. Wikipedia records that the central altar holds Krishna and Balarama; the right-hand altar holds Radha Shyamasundar with the gopis Lalita and Vishakha; and the left-hand altar holds Chaitanya Mahaprabhu with Nityananda (Gaura-Nitai), together with images of Prabhupada and his own guru, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati.

ISKCON's centre directory describes Raman Reti as a place where, according to devotees' belief, Krishna enacted his childhood pastimes some 5,000 years ago, which is why Krishna and Balarama, the cowherd brothers of Vrindavan, were chosen as the presiding deities. ISKCON News reports that Prabhupada worked for around ten years to establish a temple in Vrindavan, seeing it as especially important for devotees from abroad, and that he described it as an international temple where people from all over the world could come to worship.

For ISKCON members the samadhi of Srila Prabhupada, a white marble memorial at the entrance of the complex, is itself a major place of pilgrimage. ISKCON's directory lists the temple hall, Prabhupada's house and his samadhi as the three main parts of the complex.
