Quick answer: Drik Panchang lists 32 griha pravesh muhurat dates from Wed 11 Nov 2026 to Wed 31 Mar 2027 for New Delhi, and the same dates for Hyderabad: 6 in November, 8 in December, just one in January (1 January 2027), 7 in February and 10 in March. There is no listed date from 2 January to 9 February 2027. Each list is for one city and follows Drik's method; confirm the date and time with your own priest or panchang.

How to read the tables: times are IST, exactly as Drik gives them. The panchang day runs from sunrise to sunrise, so a window ending 'next day', or one marked 'early hours of' (after midnight, before sunrise), still belongs to the date in the first column. The window tells you when the stars, tithi and weekday are suitable; the priest picks the moment of entry, usually with the kalash and the family's first step inside, within it. Drik also checks the lunar month and the weekday for griha pravesh, which is why some otherwise good days are missing.

Griha Pravesh muhurat November 2026

6 dates. 11 and 14 November fall before Dev Uthani Ekadashi (20 November); families who avoid ceremonies in Chaturmas can start from 20 November. On 21 November the two lists differ: the New Delhi window is 4:56 to 5:54 AM in the early hours of 22 November, before sunrise, while the Hyderabad window is only seven minutes long, from 6:24 to 6:31 AM on 21 November.

The long gap: 2 January to 9 February 2027

After 1 January 2027 Drik's list is empty for almost six weeks. From 2 to 7 January each day misses on the nakshatra, the weekday or the tithi (on 7 January the suitable nakshatra is too short), from 8 January to 6 February 2027 Drik marks the lunar month itself as not auspicious for entering a new home, and 7 to 9 February again miss on the weekday or nakshatra. The first date after the gap is Wednesday 10 February 2027 (a window from 3:04 AM in the early hours of 11 February, before sunrise). If you have a move-in date fixed in January, talk to your priest; many families move their belongings in on the practical date and keep the griha pravesh puja for the next suitable muhurat.

Chaturmas and Dhanurmasam: what the list includes and what families avoid

Drik's griha pravesh method checks the lunar month, the weekday, the tithi and the nakshatra. It does not block the solar month Dhanu, and its list includes two November dates before Dev Uthani Ekadashi (20 November 2026), when Chaturmas ends. Family custom often goes further:

  • Many families avoid a housewarming during Chaturmas and wait for Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which this year is Friday 20 November 2026.
  • In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, Dhanurmasam (16 December 2026 to 14 January 2027) is often kept for dawn worship and Tiruppavai, and many families do not hold a griha pravesh in it; that rules out 18, 19 and 30 December and 1 January.
  • Some North Indian families treat Kharmas, the same solar month, the same way.

If you follow these customs, the dates that remain are 20 to 26 November, 2 to 12 December, and then February and March 2027.

Telugu and North Indian lists

The New Delhi and Hyderabad lists come from the same Drik method, so they share dates and differ only in sunrise-based times. A Telugu gruhapravesam muhurtham fixed by a family purohit from a Telugu panchangam may differ, because it can weigh the month, the lagna and the head of the family's birth star in its own way. Treat this page as a shortlist and let your priest fix the time.

Living abroad? Griha Pravesh muhurat lists are city-specific

A muhurat list belongs to one place. The windows above are worked out from sunrise, the Moon's nakshatra and the tithi as seen for New Delhi and for Hyderabad, and the rising sign (lagna) that a priest chooses inside a window depends on the local horizon. That is why we do not publish lists for American, Canadian, British or Australian cities: a converted Indian list is not a list for your city, and we will not print one that looks like it is.

There are two separate questions, and they have different answers:

  • Which day and window suits our city? Use a panchang that lets you set your own city, such as Drik Panchang's muhurat pages with your city chosen at the top of the page, or ask the priest at your local temple, who works from a panchang set to your city. Treat that as the list for your ceremony.
  • When does the India window fall on my clock? This is useful when grandparents in India join online, or when an India-based priest guides the ceremony over video. Take the IST time and apply the difference in the table below. A window that starts after midnight in India can fall on the previous calendar date abroad.

Clocks used: US cities and Ontario stay on standard time from 1 November 2026 until the second Sunday of March, which is 14 March 2027, when they move one hour forward. Under the new provincial rules, British Columbia stays on UTC−7, Alberta on UTC−6 and Manitoba on UTC−5 all winter, with no change in March. Some apps have not caught up with the provincial change yet, so check that your app shows the right clock for your city.

Planning the day

  • Take two or three shortlisted dates to your priest along with the birth details of the head of the household, if your family's custom uses them.
  • Ask for the exact time of entry within the window, and plan the kalash, the lamp and the first step around it.
  • For a window before sunrise or after dark, make sure the electricity, water and a working kitchen are ready, as boiling milk is a common first act in the new kitchen.
  • For the puja itself, see our Griha Pravesh puja at home guide, and for a house abroad our Vastu guide for a house in the USA.

A muhurat is a way of starting life in a new home with prayer and care. It does not guarantee any outcome, and entering on another date with sincere worship is not something to fear.

Frequently asked questions

What are the griha pravesh muhurat dates in November 2026?

Drik Panchang lists six November dates for both New Delhi and Hyderabad: Wednesday 11, Saturday 14, Friday 20, Saturday 21, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 November 2026. The windows differ slightly between the two cities, and the 21 November window in particular is very different, so check the table for your city.

Is there any griha pravesh muhurat in January 2027?

Only one: Friday 1 January 2027, 1:09 PM to 5:29 PM IST, in both the New Delhi and Hyderabad lists. After that Drik lists nothing until Wednesday 10 February 2027, because the lunar month from 8 January to 6 February 2027 is marked as not auspicious for griha pravesh, and the days just before and after it miss on the nakshatra, weekday or tithi.

Can we do griha pravesh during Dhanurmasam or Kharmas?

Drik's griha pravesh lists include 18, 19 and 30 December 2026 and 1 January 2027, which fall in the solar month Dhanu. Its griha pravesh method checks the lunar month rather than the solar one. Many South Indian and Telugu families, and some North Indian families who keep Kharmas, avoid a housewarming in this month all the same, so ask your priest which custom your family follows.

Should we avoid griha pravesh before Dev Uthani Ekadashi?

Drik's list includes 11 and 14 November 2026, which are before Dev Uthani Ekadashi on 20 November. Families who avoid major ceremonies during Chaturmas would start from Friday 20 November instead. Both choices are followed; your family's custom decides.

We bought a home in the USA. Can we use these dates?

Use them only as a guide to the season. A griha pravesh muhurat depends on your city's sunrise and local time, so ask a local temple priest or set your own city in a panchang such as Drik Panchang. If your parents in India want to join over video, convert the India time to your clock with the table on this page.

Editor's note

Editor's note (23 October 2026): every date and time on this page is copied from Drik Panchang's griha pravesh muhurat pages for New Delhi and Hyderabad (2026 and 2027), which we read once on 23 October 2026 and keep on file. We have not calculated or added any muhurat of our own. Panchang publishers revise their lists from time to time and regional traditions differ, so confirm with your own priest or family panchang.
