Warsaw is home to Poland's largest Indian community: IT and finance professionals, students, entrepreneurs and families from every part of India. Diwali here falls between two Polish days of light and remembrance: All Saints' Day on 1 November, when Poles light candles at family graves, and National Independence Day on Wednesday, 11 November, a public holiday.
This guide gives Warsaw's local dates and puja times, the Hindu temples near the city, community groups to follow, and practical tips for a Polish November Diwali. For other Polish cities, see our Diwali 2026 in Poland: city-by-city timings.
Editor's note (7 November 2026): puja times are HinduTone's own calculation for Warsaw. Temple details are from the temples' own listings and the ISKCON directory. We have not seen a published 2026 Diwali programme from the Embassy of India in Warsaw or the temples near the city; check their pages before travelling.
Diwali 2026 dates in Warsaw
| Day | Festival | Date in Warsaw |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dhanteras | Friday, 6 November |
| 2 | Naraka Chaturdashi (oil bath before sunrise) | Saturday, 7 November, morning |
| 3 | Diwali, Lakshmi Puja | Sunday, 8 November, evening |

Amavasya begins at 6:57 AM on Sunday, 8 November in Warsaw and ends at 8:01 AM on Monday, 9 November, so the whole of Sunday evening falls inside Amavasya. Some families keep the oil bath on Sunday morning instead; follow your own custom.
Lakshmi Puja muhurat in Warsaw
| Detail | Warsaw time (CET, UTC+1) |
|---|---|
| Diwali, Lakshmi Puja | Sunday, 8 November 2026 |
| Lakshmi Puja muhurat | 4:08 PM – 5:44 PM |
| Sunset | about 3:55 PM |
| Pradosh Kaal | 3:55 PM – 6:53 PM |
| Amavasya | 6:57 AM, 8 November – 8:01 AM, 9 November |
| Dhanteras puja (Friday, 6 November) | 4:15 PM – 5:52 PM |
Lakshmi Puja is performed in Pradosh Kaal, the period after sunset, ideally while the fixed Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna is rising. In Warsaw that window is 4:08 PM to 5:44 PM.
Do not convert India's time. New Delhi's muhurat (5:54 PM – 7:50 PM IST) would read 1:24 PM – 3:20 PM in Warsaw, before sunset. Warsaw also starts earlier than western Poland: Wrocław's window begins at 4:28 PM, because the sun sets about twenty minutes later there.
India is four and a half hours ahead, so your family's Lakshmi Puja in India runs from 1:24 PM to 3:20 PM Warsaw time. You can join it by video call in the early afternoon and then perform your own puja from 4:08 PM.
Lakshmi-Ganesh puja at home
- Clean the home and the puja corner during the day, and draw a rangoli or kolam at the door.
- Set up Lakshmi and Ganesha on a clean red cloth with a kalash, flowers, sweets, fruit, coins and diyas.
- Begin inside the muhurat (4:08 PM – 5:44 PM). Light the diyas, worship Ganesha first (Om Gan Ganapataye Namah), then Lakshmi (Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah), and finish with the aarti Om Jai Lakshmi Mata.
- Share prasad. Gujarati and Marwari families may also worship their account books (Chopda Pujan).
Most Warsaw families live in flats. Keep oil diyas on metal trays away from curtains, never leave them unattended, and use LED lights in windows and on balconies. For the meaning of each day, see the five days of Diwali explained, and for the full puja vidhi, our main Diwali 2026 guide.
Hindu temples near Warsaw
- Hindu Bhavan Mandir, Kolonia Warszawska: just south-west of Warsaw. It was built as a project of the Indian Association of Poland and opened in 2010, and is often described as the largest Hindu temple in Poland. Its festival calendar runs from Shivaratri and Holi to Ram Navami; check its website or social pages for Diwali and Lakshmi Puja arrangements.
- ISKCON Warsaw – New Ramana Reti, Mysiadło: the Hare Krishna temple at ulica Zakręt 11, Mysiadło, near Piaseczno, south of Warsaw. It was founded in 1989. Hare Krishna temples usually mark Govardhan Puja with an Annakut offering, which this year falls on Monday, 9 November. Check harekryszna.pl for the programme.
Both temples are outside the city centre; allow time for the journey and check public transport or arrange a lift, especially on the Sunday evening.
Community groups to follow
- Warsaw Bengali Association of Poland (WBAP): Bengali families often gather for Kali Puja on Diwali night; its website lists the association's pujas.
- Indian Association of Poland: the community body behind the Hindu Bhavan.
- University and student groups: Warsaw's universities have Indian student societies that often hold their own Diwali evenings.
- Embassy of India, Warsaw: check indianembassywarsaw.gov.in and its social pages for any community event or advisory.
We have not found a published 2026 Diwali event in Warsaw as of 7 November 2026. Community groups often announce programmes at short notice, so watch their pages.
Food, sweets and shopping
Warsaw has many Indian restaurants and several Indian grocers, which usually stock ghee, atta, dals, spices, paneer and puja items before Diwali. Order sweets and mithai boxes a few days ahead. Polish supermarkets have flowers and candles in large numbers around All Saints' Day, which makes early November an easy time to buy lamps and flowers. For recipes, see our Diwali sweets recipes.
Fireworks and safety
Poland's State Fire Service advises that fireworks are for adults over 18 only, should be used only in open spaces, never from balconies, terraces or windows, and never near houses or trees. Local authorities can restrict them further. Most families in flats keep Diwali to lamps and LED lights; check your housing association's rules on balconies and stairwells.
Practical tips
- Weather: early November in Warsaw is cold and often damp, around 0–8 °C. Dress warmly for any evening temple visit.
- Holiday: Wednesday, 11 November (Independence Day) is a public holiday, convenient for a family Bhai Dooj gathering on Tuesday evening or a temple visit.
- Time difference: Poland is four and a half hours behind India in November.
