Quick answer: Diwali 2026 in Yekaterinburg is on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The Lakshmi Puja muhurat for Yekaterinburg is 5:08 PM – 6:36 PM Yekaterinburg time (YEKT, UTC+5), calculated by HinduTone with the Drik Panchang method. Yekaterinburg is two hours ahead of Moscow, so do not use Moscow's puja times here.

Yekaterinburg is the capital of Sverdlovsk Oblast and Russia's fourth-largest city, with about 1.5 million people. It stands on the Iset River on the eastern side of the Ural Mountains, close to the conventional border between Europe and Asia. Its Indian community is small but growing: students at the city's universities, engineers and business people linked to Ural industry, and families. In November 2025 India opened a Consulate General in the city, which is the clearest sign yet of that growing link.

This guide gives the local dates and puja times, where to find the Hare Krishna temple and Indian food, and practical tips for a Diwali weekend in the Urals.

Editor's note (6 November 2026): puja times are HinduTone's own calculation for Yekaterinburg, using the same method as our Diwali 2026 dates in every country table. Temple and café details are from the ISKCON centres directory and local restaurant listings. We did not find a publicly announced Diwali 2026 event in Yekaterinburg; check with the temple and community groups before you travel.

Govardhan Puja is a close call in Yekaterinburg this year, because Amavasya is still running at sunrise on Monday. HinduTone's calculation gives Monday, 9 November, as in Moscow; some calendars may give Tuesday, 10 November for Govardhan Puja and Wednesday, 11 November for Bhai Dooj. If your temple or family priest announces those days, follow them.

Lakshmi Puja muhurat in Yekaterinburg

Lakshmi Puja is performed in Pradosh Kaal, the period after sunset, ideally while the fixed Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna is rising. In Yekaterinburg that window is 5:08 PM to 6:36 PM.

Do not convert another city's time. Yekaterinburg is two hours ahead of Moscow and half an hour behind India. Moscow's muhurat (4:45 PM – 6:16 PM Moscow time) would read 6:45 PM – 8:16 PM in Yekaterinburg, and New Delhi's (5:54 PM – 7:50 PM IST) would read 5:24 PM – 7:20 PM. Neither matches the local window, because the muhurat depends on local sunset and the rising sign at your own location.

For other Russian cities, see Diwali 2026 in Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Kazan.

Lakshmi-Ganesh puja at home

For most Indian families in Yekaterinburg, Diwali will be celebrated at home. A simple order:

  1. Clean the flat and the puja corner during the day, and draw a small rangoli or kolam at the door.
  2. Set up Lakshmi and Ganesha on a clean red cloth with a kalash, flowers, sweets, fruit, coins and diyas.
  3. Begin inside the muhurat (5:08 PM – 6:36 PM). Light the diyas, worship Ganesha first (Om Gan Ganapataye Namah), then Lakshmi (Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah), and finish with the aarti Om Jai Lakshmi Mata.
  4. Share prasad. Gujarati and Marwari families may also worship their account books (Chopda Pujan).

Because the puja ends at 6:36 PM in Yekaterinburg, which is 7:06 PM in India, you can finish your own puja and then join family video calls while India's evening puja is still going on.

In apartment blocks, keep oil diyas on metal trays away from curtains, never leave them burning unattended, and use LED lamps on balconies and windows. For the meaning of each day, see the five days of Diwali explained, and for the full puja vidhi, our main Diwali 2026 guide.

Hare Krishna temple: New Ekachakra (ISKCON Yekaterinburg)

The main Hindu place of worship in Yekaterinburg is the ISKCON temple known as New Ekachakra.

  • Address (ISKCON centres directory): Murzinskaya ulitsa 23, Yekaterinburg. The temple is in a quiet, forested area on the edge of the city, so allow time for the journey by taxi.
  • Daily programme listed: mangala arati at 4:30 AM, greeting of the deities at 7:30 AM, raja-bhoga arati at 2 PM and Gaura arati at 7 PM.
  • Sunday programme: the directory lists a Sunday feast programme from 2 PM to 6 PM. It is held at a rented hall because the temple building cannot hold everyone, so check the venue before you go.
  • Contact: the community posts announcements on its VK page (vk.com/iskconekabu).

Diwali falls on a Sunday this year, so the regular Sunday programme may include Diwali or Kartik-month observances, but we have not seen a published 2026 schedule. Message the community before travelling. Hare Krishna temples usually mark Govardhan Puja with an Annakut offering, so ask about Monday, 9 November too.

Indian Consulate and community contacts

India inaugurated its Consulate General in Yekaterinburg on 19 November 2025, together with a new consulate in Kazan. Before that, the city had only an honorary consul. Reports at the opening said about 3,000 Indians live in the Yekaterinburg consulate's area. The consulate is the official contact for Indian nationals in the Urals region; watch its announcements and those of the Embassy of India in Moscow for any Diwali reception or cultural programme.

Indian students are the other main community network. Ural State Medical University signed an agreement in 2022 on recruiting students from India, and Ural Federal University also runs programmes with Indian participants. Student groups at these universities are the most likely organisers of informal Diwali gatherings; ask in your university's international office or Indian student group.

Indian and vegetarian food in Yekaterinburg

Yekaterinburg has only a few Indian restaurants, so for a full Diwali meal most families cook at home. Places listed in local restaurant guides:

  • Lyublyu i Blagodaryu (Love and Thanks) café: a vegetarian café linked to the Hare Krishna community, with Indian and Asian dishes. ISKCON's directory lists it at ulitsa Kuybysheva 55.
  • Thali: an Indian café inside the Glavny food mall near Ploshchad 1905 Goda in the city centre.

Listings change often, so check current opening hours on Yandex Maps or 2GIS before going. For sweets, many families make their own; see our Diwali sweets recipes. Basmati rice, lentils and common spices are sold in large supermarkets; specialist items such as ghee, besan, paneer and puja supplies are easier to find through online marketplaces that deliver in Russia, so order them a few days ahead.

Places to visit over the Diwali weekend

  • Plotinka: the historic dam on the Iset River, where the city was founded in 1723, and the usual meeting point in the centre.
  • Church on the Blood: built on the site of the Ipatiev House, where the last Russian tsar and his family were killed in 1918.
  • Vysotsky skyscraper observation deck: views over the city from one of its tallest buildings.
  • Yeltsin Center: a museum and cultural centre on the riverfront.
  • Europe–Asia border monument: on the outskirts of the city, a popular short trip for visitors.

Practical tips

  • Weather: early November in Yekaterinburg is cold, often around or below freezing, and snow is possible. Dress warmly, especially for the evening puja and any temple visit.
  • Time difference: Yekaterinburg is UTC+5 all year, two hours ahead of Moscow and 30 minutes behind India.
  • Payments: Visa and Mastercard cards issued outside Russia do not work in Russia. Carry cash in roubles or arrange another payment method before you travel.
  • Fireworks: follow local rules and building regulations. Many families keep Diwali to diyas and LED lights indoors.
  • Getting around: Yekaterinburg has a single metro line plus trams and buses; taxis booked through apps are the easiest way to reach the temple.
