Sharad Navratri to Dussehra 2026: The 10-Day Journey

Dussehra does not stand alone — it is the triumphant tenth day that crowns the nine nights of Sharad Navratri. This HinduTone guide explains the 10-day journey from Sharad Navratri to Dussehra 2026 (11–20 October), and what each phase means.

Sharad Navratri 2026 runs 11–20 October; the tenth day, Vijayadashami (Dussehra), is on 20 October — the victory that follows nine nights of Devi worship.

The Nine Nights of Navratri

Sharad Navratri honours Goddess Durga in her nine forms (Navadurga), one each night — Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri. The nine nights commemorate Durga’s battle with the demon Mahishasura.

Ashtami, Navami & the Climax

Maha Ashtami: around 18 October — Durga worship, Kanya Pujan in many homes
Maha Navami: around 19 October — the demon is vanquished; Ayudha Puja and Saraswati Puja follow on 20 October per Drik Panchang (some families keep them on the 19th)
Vijayadashami: 20 October — the victory is celebrated; Ravana Dahan and Durga immersion

Two Streams, One Victory

Across India the journey carries two intertwined stories: Durga’s nine-night battle ending in victory on the tenth day, and Rama’s war against Ravana culminating in his triumph — both celebrated as Vijayadashami, the day good defeats evil.

The ten-day journey from Sharad Navratri to Dussehra is a journey from devotion to victory. As commonly told, Maa Durga battled Mahishasura through nine nights and triumphed on the tenth, and Lord Rama overcame Ravana, so that dharma and light prevailed over darkness. As this sacred journey reaches its joyful end, share that blessing with the people you love. Choose a message below and send your family a prayer of strength and hope this Vijayadashami.
