Diwali 2026 in Peru: Dates, Lakshmi Puja Muhurat and Where to Celebrate
Lakshmi Puja in Peru falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, with the Vrishabha muhurat from 6:40 PM to 8:26 PM in Lima. Here are the five days, timings for nine Peruvian cities and an honest guide to celebrating with a small Hindu community.
Diwali 2026 in Peru: Lakshmi Puja is on Sunday 8 November 2026, and in Lima the Lakshmi Puja muhurat is 6:40 PM to 8:26 PM. The five days run from Dhanteras on Friday 6 November to Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November. The dates are the same across Peru; only the muhurat shifts a little from city to city, so check yours in the table below.
Editor's note (1 November 2026): HinduTone calculated these local dates with Drik Panchang tithi times and Drik's rules for each festival day, and checked the method against Drik Panchang's own dates for 15 countries. The Lakshmi Puja muhurat is the Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna within Pradosh Kaal, following the Drik method, worked out for each city's sunset and Peru's time zone. We do not list event schedules, because temples and community groups set their own programmes each year.
Diwali 2026 dates in Peru
These are the dates for Lima. They are the same in every Peruvian city we calculated.
| Day | Date | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Dhanteras | Friday 6 November 2026 | Day one: buying new utensils or gold, lighting the first diya for Lord Yama, and Dhanvantari puja |
| Naraka Chaturdashi (Chhoti Diwali) | Saturday 7 November 2026 | Day two: early abhyanga snan (oil bath), lamps in the evening, marking Krishna's victory over Narakasura |
| Lakshmi Puja (Diwali) | Sunday 8 November 2026 | The main night: Lakshmi and Ganesha puja at the muhurat, rows of diyas, sweets and family gatherings |
| Govardhan Puja / Annakut | Monday 9 November 2026 | Day four: Annakut offering of many dishes to Krishna, remembering the lifting of Govardhan hill |
| Bhai Dooj | Tuesday 10 November 2026 | Day five: sisters apply tilak and pray for their brothers, who offer gifts and protection in return |
For reference, the tithis behind these dates (Drik Panchang, IST) are: Trayodashi from 10:30 AM on 6 November to 10:47 AM on 7 November; Chaturdashi until 11:27 AM on 8 November; Amavasya from 11:27 AM on 8 November to 12:31 PM on 9 November; Pratipada until 2:00 PM on 10 November; and Dwitiya until 3:53 PM on 11 November. In Peru time, Amavasya runs from 12:57 AM on Sunday 8 November to 2:01 AM on Monday 9 November, so the whole of Sunday evening's Pradosh Kaal falls inside it.
Diwali 2026 timings in Peruvian cities
All of Peru keeps one time zone, UTC-5, and does not use daylight saving. The festival dates are identical everywhere; the Lakshmi Puja muhurat moves with each city's sunset.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lima | Fri 6 Nov | Sat 7 Nov | Sun 8 Nov | 6:40 PM – 8:26 PM | Mon 9 Nov | Tue 10 Nov |

Lakshmi Puja muhurat explained
Lakshmi Puja is performed on the evening of Amavasya in Kartik, during Pradosh Kaal, the period of about two and a half hours that begins at sunset. In Lima, sunset on Sunday 8 November is at 6:10 PM and Pradosh Kaal runs from 6:10 PM to 8:26 PM.
Within Pradosh Kaal, the Drik method looks for the Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna, a fixed (sthir) sign. Worshipping Lakshmi in a fixed lagna is traditionally believed to help prosperity stay in the home. In Lima, Vrishabha rises at 6:40 PM and Pradosh Kaal ends at 8:26 PM, which gives the muhurat of 6:40 PM to 8:26 PM.
In practice, have the altar ready and the family gathered just after sunset, light the lamps, and begin the main Lakshmi and Ganesha puja at 6:40 PM in Lima. If you cannot start in time, any part of Pradosh Kaal on Sunday 8 November is still a good time to worship. Callao's window is almost identical, ending at 8:27 PM.
Hindu temples in Peru for Diwali
Peru's Hindu community is very small, and we could confirm only a few places where Hindus gather. We have not found a traditional North or South Indian style mandir in Peru, so we have not listed one. Please treat this as a starting point and ask around within your own circle.
Lima
- ISKCON Lima (Templo Hare Krishna), Chosica, Lurigancho-Chosica district, east of central Lima. Listed in ISKCON's official centre directory, this is the main Hindu temple serving the capital, with Radha-Krishna worship and a mostly Peruvian congregation. ISKCON communities usually mark Diwali and Govardhan Puja with kirtan, lamp offerings and Annakut.
- Embassy of India, Lima, San Isidro. Not a temple, but the embassy is the main link to the Indian community and has run cultural programmes, Hindi and yoga classes in the past. It is a good place to ask whether any community Diwali gathering is planned.
Elsewhere in Peru
Older listings mention Hare Krishna groups in Arequipa and Cusco, but we could not confirm that they are active today, so we do not name them here. Outside Lima, a home puja is the most practical way to celebrate, perhaps with friends or the wider Indian and yoga community in your city.
Temples and community groups usually announce Diwali programmes a few weeks ahead; check their websites and social pages.
How Diwali is celebrated in Peru
Peru does not have a historic Indian diaspora of the kind found in the Caribbean or Fiji. The Indian community is made up mainly of professionals, business families, students and their children, living largely in Lima, with smaller numbers elsewhere. Alongside them are Peruvian devotees of ISKCON and many people drawn to yoga and Indian culture, who often join in Diwali gatherings with real warmth.
For most Indian families in Peru, Diwali is a home festival: cleaning and decorating the house, a rangoli at the door, diyas on balconies and windowsills, Lakshmi and Ganesha puja on the main evening, and an exchange of sweets with friends. Many families make their own mithai because Indian sweet shops are scarce; an Indian grocery or online order can help with ingredients such as ghee, besan and cardamom.
Where community events take place, they typically include a puja or aarti, devotional singing, classical or Bollywood dance, children's activities and a shared vegetarian meal. ISKCON gatherings usually centre on kirtan, lamp offerings and, the next day, a large Annakut offering for Govardhan Puja.
Sikh families mark Bandi Chhor Divas on the same day, and Jain families observe Diwali as the anniversary of Lord Mahavira's nirvana. In a small community, these celebrations often overlap with neighbours and friends sharing the evening together.
Simple Lakshmi Puja at home
You do not need a priest to perform a meaningful Lakshmi Puja. A simple, widely followed sequence is:
- Clean the house during the day and make a rangoli or a few small footprints of Lakshmi leading inside.
- Set up a clean altar facing east or north with images or murtis of Lakshmi and Ganesha, a kalash of water topped with mango or betel leaves and a coconut, and a plate of fresh flowers.
- Light a ghee diya near the altar and more diyas around the home once the sun has set.
- At the muhurat (6:40 PM in Lima), begin with Ganesha: offer water, kumkum, rice, flowers and a sweet, and chant Om Gam Ganapataye Namah.
- Worship Lakshmi with the same offerings plus coins or new money, and chant Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah or recite the Shri Suktam if you know it.
- Perform aarti together as a family, offer prasad such as ladoo, kheer or fruit, and share it with everyone present.
Many families keep one diya burning through the night. If you have a family tradition from your region of India, follow it; there is no single correct way.
Practical tips for Diwali 2026 in Peru
- Weekdays: Dhanteras is on Friday, Naraka Chaturdashi on Saturday and Lakshmi Puja on Sunday, which makes the main festival weekend easy to plan. Govardhan Puja (Monday) and Bhai Dooj (Tuesday) fall on working days, so plan those for the evening.
- Holidays: check the official 2026 holiday list for Peru and talk to your employer or school early if you need time off.
- Sunset and weather: November is late spring in Peru. Sunset in Lima is at 6:10 PM on 8 November, and earlier in the Andes and the Amazon. Coastal evenings can be cool and damp, so place outdoor diyas where the breeze will not put them out.
- Fireworks: rules are set by Peruvian authorities and can vary by district. Check before buying or using any, and consider diyas and electric lights instead, especially in apartment buildings.
- Temple pujas: if you would like to join a temple programme or arrange a puja, contact the temple well before Diwali weekend, as requests pile up close to the day.
- Supplies: buy diyas, wicks, incense and puja items early, or ask friends travelling from India; such items can be hard to find in Peru.
