Diwali 2026 in Argentina: Lakshmi Puja is on Sunday 8 November 2026, and in Buenos Aires the Lakshmi Puja muhurat is 8:03 PM to 9:32 PM local time (UTC-3). Dhanteras falls on Friday 6 November, Naraka Chaturdashi on Saturday 7 November, Govardhan Puja on Monday 9 November and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November. The dates are the same in every Argentine city we checked; only the evening muhurat shifts a little from east to west.

Editor's note (1 November 2026): HinduTone calculated these local dates from Drik Panchang tithi times using Drik Panchang's own rules for each festival day, and we checked the method against Drik's published dates for 15 countries. The Lakshmi Puja muhurat is the Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna that falls within Pradosh Kaal, following the Drik method. We do not list event schedules: temples and community groups usually announce Diwali programmes a few weeks ahead, so check their websites and social pages.

Diwali 2026 city timings in Argentina

All times are local (UTC-3). Argentina keeps one clock across the country, but because it stretches a long way west, sunset and the muhurat come later in Córdoba, Tucumán and Salta than on the Atlantic coast.

Lakshmi Puja muhurat in Argentina explained

Two windows decide the best time for Lakshmi Puja. The first is Pradosh Kaal, the period of about two and a half hours that begins at sunset. In Buenos Aires on Sunday 8 November, sunset is at 7:29 PM, so Pradosh Kaal runs from 7:29 PM to 9:32 PM.

The second is Vrishabha (Taurus) lagna, the ascendant considered fixed (sthira). A puja done in a fixed lagna is believed to help Lakshmi stay in the home. In Buenos Aires, Vrishabha rises at 8:03 PM and is still rising when Pradosh Kaal ends at 9:32 PM, so the overlap, and the recommended muhurat, is 8:03 PM to 9:32 PM.

In other cities the logic is the same. In Córdoba, sunset is at 7:46 PM and the muhurat is 8:19 PM to 9:52 PM. In Salta, sunset is at 7:41 PM and the muhurat is 8:13 PM to 9:50 PM. In Corrientes, sunset is at 7:18 PM and the muhurat is 7:51 PM to 9:26 PM. If you cannot start within the muhurat, any time in your city's Pradosh Kaal is still traditionally acceptable, and a sincere puja at a convenient hour is better than none.

Hindu temples in Argentina for Diwali

Argentina's Hindu community is small, and places of Hindu worship are few. We have confirmed the following. We list only names and areas, so check each organisation's own website or social pages for current details before you go.

Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires Province

  • ISKCON Buenos Aires – the Hare Krishna temple community in Buenos Aires, active since the 1970s, with deities of Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai and a regular Sunday programme. It also organises the city's Ratha Yatra.
  • Ramakrishna Ashrama – Bella Vista, Buenos Aires Province. Founded in Buenos Aires in 1933 by Swami Vijoyananda of the Ramakrishna Order and later moved to Bella Vista.
  • Fundación Hastinapura – an Argentine spiritual foundation near Buenos Aires whose grounds include shrines to Ganesha, Krishna, Shiva, Narayana and Surya. It is run by Argentine devotees rather than an Indian diaspora congregation, and it also honours other faiths.

Salta Province

  • Gurdwara in Rosario de la Frontera – the Sikh gurdwara of the Punjabi community in Salta Province, often described as the only gurdwara in Argentina. Sikh families mark Bandi Chhor Divas at the same time as Diwali.

Other places to connect

The Embassy of India in Buenos Aires publishes news on Indian cultural activities and lists local spiritual organisations, and it is a useful first contact if you are new to the country. Outside Buenos Aires and Salta we could not confirm a Hindu temple, including in Córdoba, Rosario, Tucumán and Mar del Plata. If you live there, a home puja at the muhurat in the table above is the simplest and most traditional way to mark the night.

How Diwali is celebrated in Argentina

People of Indian origin in Argentina number only a few thousand. The oldest group are Punjabi families who arrived in the first half of the twentieth century and settled in the north, especially around Rosario de la Frontera and other towns in Salta Province, where Hindu and Sikh households live side by side and many have married into Argentine families. In Buenos Aires, most of the Indian community are more recent arrivals: professionals, doctors, business people and staff of multinational companies. There are also families with Indo-Caribbean roots from Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname, who may call the festival Divali.

Alongside them is a long-standing Argentine interest in Hindu philosophy, yoga and Vedanta, which is why ISKCON, the Ramakrishna Ashrama and the Fundación Hastinapura draw many local Argentine devotees. Diwali programmes at such centres typically include kirtan or bhajans, an arati with lamps, a talk on the meaning of the festival and a shared vegetarian meal. Indian families and workplaces in Buenos Aires often hold their own gatherings, and the Indian Ambassador has in past years joined Diwali celebrations, such as one held at a technology company's Argentine head office in 2018.

At home, families clean and decorate the house, draw rangoli at the entrance, light diyas or candles on the evening of Lakshmi Puja and share sweets with neighbours and friends. Jain families observe Diwali as the day of Mahavira's nirvana, and Sikh families mark Bandi Chhor Divas, so the same week has meaning across several traditions.

Simple Lakshmi Puja at home

You do not need a priest or a long list of items. A short, sincere puja at your city's muhurat is enough.

  1. Clean the house during the day and make a small, tidy altar facing east or north.
  2. Place an image or murti of Lakshmi with Ganesha on her left, on a red or yellow cloth, with a kalash of water topped with mango or betel leaves if you have them.
  3. Bathe and wear clean clothes. Light a ghee or oil diya and some incense at the start of the muhurat.
  4. Begin with Ganesha: offer a flower and say 'Om Gam Ganapataye Namah'.
  5. Offer Lakshmi kumkum, rice, flowers, sweets, fruit and a few coins or new notes. Chant 'Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah' 11 or 108 times.
  6. Perform arati, then light diyas or candles at the doorway, windows and every room.
  7. Share the prasad with family and neighbours. Many families keep one lamp burning through the night.

If the Vrishabha muhurat does not suit your household, do the puja at any time within Pradosh Kaal for your city.

Practical tips for Diwali 2026 in Argentina

  • Weekend timing: Dhanteras is a Friday, Naraka Chaturdashi a Saturday and Lakshmi Puja a Sunday, so the main days fall conveniently. Govardhan Puja (Monday) and Bhai Dooj (Tuesday) are working days for most people; Diwali is not a national holiday, so check the official 2026 holiday list and plan leave early if you need it.
  • Late sunset: November is late spring in Argentina and evenings are long and mild. With sunset around half past seven and the muhurat starting after 8 PM in most cities, plan dinner after the puja and let children nap in the afternoon.
  • Fireworks: Rules on pyrotechnics are set by local authorities, so check your municipality's rules, and consider lamps, candles and fairy lights instead.
  • Temple pujas: If you would like a special puja or archana at a temple, ask a few weeks ahead, as small communities have limited priests and volunteers.
  • Supplies: Indian groceries can be hard to find outside Buenos Aires. Buy ghee, cotton wicks, incense and kumkum early, or use what you have; candles and local flowers are perfectly acceptable.
